We had the good fortune of connecting with Lady J and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lady, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factors behind the success of all of my brands are God first, and relationships second. Building solid relationships is the key to maintaining and sustaining a successful brand. Whether that be with your team or clients/consumers, how you treat others, ensuring there is open communication, making sure what you have to offer is valuable, and showing appreciation for their contribution to the “relationship” will take you far in business, The majority of my opportunities and the constant growth of clients/supporters are due to me having solid relationships.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am the Founder/CEO of E.G.O. Entertainment Network, a multidivisional multimedia company; Life Support Company LLC, a business development, consulting, and coaching brand (Business Bangers division), in addition to my speaking and author brand; BounceBackology LLC, a youth and family mentoring brand in addition to a clothing line; and last but not least, No Limits MInistry INC., a nonprofit organization that serves the homeless and families in need.

If I had to describe what sets me apart from others, I would have to say that I serve first and “sell” second. I love to serve and help others. It brings me joy. I also treat my team and those I serve like family. I am concerned about not only delivering top-quality service and products, but also making sure I am offering my time, talent, and resources to my partners and team to ensure OUR success. I want to see everyone win! I try to take as many with me as possible each time I rise to another level. Lastly, even when it looks like I am losing, I win, because I am relentless when it comes to bouncing back from a setback. Nothing holds me down. I am not afraid to go back to the drawing board as many times as needed to ensure success.

I am most proud and excited about the lives I have touched through my speaking and mentoring as I share my story and utilize my programs to help others overcome trauma and hardships so they too, can live a life without limits. I love knowing I am making a difference. When young people or parents come to me or call and say, “Hey Ms. Jay or Lady J, I graduated, or I got out of that abusive relationship, or I got my children back, or I learned so much in your program and I’m not depressed anymore, etc.,” it does my heart good. By that same token, I love that I am able to use my media platforms to highlight, support, and push others who are doing amazing things and who have a message whether it be in music, tv, film, business, etc. I love that I am able to use my media platform to provide opportunities for people that would not usually have access to them or the ability to be able to afford them. I love the path God has me on in media. I have been blessed to be a part of some of the largest local and national events that include the Oscars, Stellars, and Spin Awards, to name a few. There are so many other things I could speak on, but I will leave it right there.

How did I get to where I am today? Whew! that’s a loaded question. It wasn’t easy. Growing up I endured an unbelievable amount of trauma and hardships, That included neglect, sexual abuse, homelessness, drug, and sex addiction, suicide attempts, abandonment, and so much more and I was told I was good for nothing but to lay on my back among other things. Well, that stuck with me along with all that I had endured and it caused me to see myself as less than what God intended me to be, but after I went through the necessary steps to heal, I started to own who I was and what I possessed and anything I put my mind to, I got it done. I decided to start my nonprofit first because I love to serve and I have been homeless more than once, years ago. When sharing my story in book form, led to me speaking on radio, tv, and more, then which led to me speaking at major organizations and led to the creation of Life Support Company which was originally what the mentoring company was under. I landed contracts with many organizations like Job Corps, after-school programs, schools, athletic teams, detention centers, and more. That led to me having a radio show and then launching my own radio station which grew to over 200,000 listeners in 86 countries in 10 months, and now I have a 6 division multimedia company (RADIO, TV, MAGAZINE, NEWS, MANAGEMENT , ADVERTISING). Now I had the ability to help others all over the world and use the platform to support and push independent talent and shed light on individuals, organizations and more that are creating change.

It was not easy. I have had to stop and shut down and start over three times due to major emergencies and life-altering circumstances, with one of them being suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm in August of 2019 and taking two years to recover. However, because of the relationships I had built (there’s that word relationships again), each time, I came back bigger and better! Clients and partners put things on hold because they wanted to wait until I came back to continue moving forward. Now that is favor and solid relationships! I’ve been blessed to be on many red carpets with some major celebrities, feature and interview game changers and celebs, help build many businesses, mentor, teach and coach in some of the most amazing organzations. be featured in numerous major media outlets, manage and build departments or databases for multimillion-dollar companies, and so much more. God continues to enlarge my territory and I’m just getting started since this comeback at the beginning of this year. He picked up where I left off and then catapulted me even further!

While I couldn’t possibly give all the information in this one interview, prayer, determination, focus, and being serious about making sure I serve those I am assigned to because they are entrusting their time, money, content, and needs to me, is how I overcame. I made up in my mind that I would make a liar out of those who said I couldn’t and prove God right. More importantly, I lead by example….. quitting is not an option and bouncing back is what I do.

The lessons that I have learned along the way would be:
1. Even if you are afraid, do it scared. It’s alright to be afraid, but you cannot allow it to paralyze you and keep you from going after everything you desire and what was promised to you.

2. Professionalism and relationships are the foundation of a sustainable business outside of the organizational and operational structures.

3. When you truly take care of what and who God has given you, they will take care of you when the time comes and your gifts will make room for you.

4. No matter how difficult things may seem, it’s never impossible. Try it anyway and keep trying until you make it happen.

5. Transparency is the best policy. Lead by example and from a place of transparency as opposed to from a place of perfection.

I want the world to know that while I serve in many capacities, five things sum me up… Service, Leadership, Community, Business, and Media. Speaking, teaching, mentoring, coaching, developing, and building are the tools I use to help others keep believing as I contribute to their journey of becoming successful in all areas of life. Know that it does us no good to be a public success and a private failure. Your mindset is what determines the outcome and how fast it manifests for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well Atlanta is my second home and I would take them to Sunny Fine’s Breakfast Burritos for breakfast, the Old Lady Gang for lunch and Pappadeaux’s for dinner. Then we would visit the Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial museum and take part in the activities and view the burial place. I love museums so this would be a real treat for them and me. Lastly, taking them to see the OutKast mural is a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this Shoutout to my children who are my world and have been the driving force behind my success. They have and continue to share me with so many young people and clients. I would also like to dedicate this to my grandmother who had a huge hand in shaping me into the woman I am today. Lastly, to my clients, partners, and supporters who have continued to rock with me throughout this journey. The best is yet to come!
