We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacye A Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lacye A, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?

Many things make me happy. Material things are nice, but I try to carve beautiful moments into my life daily to enhance gratitude.
I have found that it’s those moments when I’m around my kids, and I get the privilege of watching them live a better life than I had growing up, their growth, smile, and happiness. I love it.
I love solo traveling. I am happy when I have just a backpack, and I place myself into a world of the unknown and then explore until my legs can not take me any further. I love learning about various cultures, foods, and experiences. They are once-in-a-lifetime moments, and they are just mine.
Pausing in the day to breathe deeply and feel who I am. Looking back at coming from nothing to making my inner child proud of who I am today. I feel so grateful. Looking back at the previous and current blessings I have in my life. Little or big, it makes no difference. I am thankful because I worked and earned them all.
Looking or experiencing nature. Staring at a tree and watching it dance in the wind, seeing a bird fly, or looking at bright flowers always delight me.
Playing my video games. I love getting lost in a world, exploring, and acting a fool while surprisingly still defeating the game efficiently.
Lastly, packaging an order. At LAB Shaman, we have a rule: never create or package an order in a foul mood. We have to be happy or laughing while we package. We love sending that extra positive vibes to your orders.

What should our readers know about your business?
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others,

Thank you for having me. LAB Shaman is a Wellness, Metaphysical Store and Online Spiritual Resource for people who want to be the BEST version of themselves. We sell candles, perfumes, tarot decks, Florida Water, conjure oils, to Online Courses. We are forever expanding and love the process.

What makes the LAB Shaman brand so unique is that the brand provides my personal experience in the spiritual lifestyle while providing quality products to assist in your self-growth. We say we wrap our products with love so you can feel special. A little extra love goes a long way.

Through my spiritual journey, I’ve experienced many highs and impossible lows. I’ve lived this lifestyle for over a decade and I empathize. I don’t desire for anyone to have to go through this journey alone. I am an Usui, Karuna & Quantum, Reiki Master. I have Munay-ki Rites and specialize in Hoodoo & Eclectic Wicca. Yes, my experience is a singular life journey but you can learn A LOT from my mistakes so you don’t have to learn the hard way throughout.

What you are most proud of or excited about?

At the moment, I am ecstatic about my new perfume, LAB Floride* (*Phonetic – flɔ.ʁid). It’s base off of my Best Selling Florida Water Cologne. It’s a Lux, yet affordable Artisanal Perfume, wholly created and manufactured by me; in-house! I never imagined that I would be a Perfumer, but these are the surprising things about life. When you open yourself up for change and go for what your heart desires, you surprise yourself! I’ve had a couple of bumps and bruises on the road but I made it. Mission accomplished. There is truth to the saying, “Keep Going.”

I have so much to say about LAB Floride* Perfume. It a wonderful project I set in my mind and it’s finally physically here!

It’s a beautiful Daytime perfume. Again, it’s base off of my Best Selling LAB Florida Water. What is Florida Water? Florida Water has been around since the 1800s. It was listed as a cure-all but transitioned into the Spiritual community as an energetic protection spray; warding off negative energies & providing a protective barrier. My LAB Florida Water is a popular & Best Selling staple in the Etsy Market -Selling hundreds.
To explain what LAB Floride* Perfume smells like, I would like to take you on a journey: If you’re into the Esoteric world, my perfume is loosely base on the story of the Tarot, The Fool’s Journey….
Top Note: Bright, Enlightened Citrus. Explore the mysticism of life by beginning your day like the 1st card of the Major Arcana Tarot Deck, The Fool….

Start the day with a refreshing blend of Sweet Citruses to let in the Optimism.

Middle Note: Mystical fresh Florals. As your day unfolds, like wild flowers, they showcase their uniqueness to complement your natural scent. Where will the Wheel of Life take you?

Base Note: Grounding Ambers. By the end of your day, you are grounded. It’s time to reflect & rest to take on the World again.

It’s a Lux Fragrance for your Life Journey.

How did you get to where you are today business-wise.

I was a stay-at-home mother, with Art as a hobby. I was trying to live the life my family wanted me to have: Married, at home, with a white picketed fence around me. When an unexpected divorce that lead me without money, support and 3 children to feed on my own, I had to focus on healing, acting and creating a new world for myself and kids. -One that I desired to have. Thing was, I didn’t know what I wanted.

I took a job that paid me in cash. I learned from one of many mentors about life and managing a business. I learned what I liked about how they ran the company and what I would never do. During this time, since I didn’t know what I wanted out of life, I agreed to Learn who I was. For a year, I decided to say, “yes,” to mostly everything. I joined meetup groups and attended meetings.

That’s where I meat a Shaman and received Munay-Ki rites (rites of initiation to become a person of wisdom and power). After that, I became interested in all things esoteric; and since I was saying, “Yes,” to everything, I satiated my curiosity into joining other groups. A lot of the times, I didn’t know, “Why,” I wanted to become a Reiki Master, or travel alone but my soul told me to, so I did. I apply this (with reason) to my businesses.

I left the cash job to work at a Billion Dollar Corporate Company, where I had the privilege to learn and travel worldwide. Through my travels, I met wonderful people, Shamans, Healers, got attuned with healing practices and experiences. Through this time, I had grown and learned so much. I wanted to share it with others. That’s when I created LAB (my initials) Shaman (healer), LLC.

I started LAB Shaman off small, with dreamcatcher and a few pillar candles on Etsy. I got A LOT of jokes from then friends about my goals but I didn’t care. I had no idea what LAB Shaman had in store for the future but I knew I first had to begin with dreamcatchers. I balanced working 9-5s and growing my small business. At times I needed a mental and spiritual break because I was still healing and growing from life changes. When I picked back up, I took the lessons from life, mentors, mistakes and applied it to my business. If you aren’t sure of the life lesson, ask yourself, “What is it about this experience/job that I like/hate? What would I do in these situations? Answer questions like these and develop a concrete ethos for your Brand.

This way of thinking also boosted my confidence when similar situations occurred in my business. I had a blueprint on how I should resolve specific circumstances. Everything above led me to stay the course, keep selling, perfect my products, learn the fundamentals! Meaning, to provide the best products, I needed to understand my style, hot/cold throws, herb safety, fragrance limits, unhealthy heated temperatures, certifications, etc. That what it takes to get to the next level. What got you here won’t get you there (to the next level).

Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

In all my years, I’ve learned that most things that come easy, never trump your heart’s desires. I overcame most challenges by understanding that I surpassed the last challenges and I was okay. Thus, I can do it again. If I can compartmentalize the situation and know it’s a moment and think of a plan of action, that’s the route to go.
What can be tricky are the moments of self-doubt; They can creep in. When I start to overthink or over-feel, I acknowledge and respect the emotions. Then I give my feelings and overthinking a time-out.

I create a visual for myself: I picture me taking my heart and locking it up into a safe. Then I place that safe into a bigger safe with 3 master locks. I remind myself of the long-term goal and take action towards them. There is no “thinking about whether or not this will work”. There is no “feeling that it isn’t going to work.” At that stage, we, “Do!” That’s the time to turn off the emotions and act for a moment. I do some grounding and spiritual cleansing of my area for a while and decompress by doing hobbies (I like playing Zelda).

It’s only after I have taken some time to ground, and when my mind, intuition and heart (emotions) feel stable, I can unlock those safes again. Those are your “Keep Going” moments.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I got here by the following: First, I stopped caring what others thought of me. I Set up ethical rules for myself and business and live by them. Remain Professional; especially during Emotional moments. Act vs. React. Believe in myself. Live in my truth. Practice balance. Acknowledge how I feel. Go for what I desired -regardless of the outcome. Learn the fundamentals of new ground, you are exploring. Read. Rest. Learn your “dark-side” and appreciate it. Continue Self-healing & Therapy. Be gentle with yourself. Learn form other’s mistakes and apply their lessons to my business. Be grateful, daily. Be healthy. Routinely, do spiritual Shadow Work. Practice Self-Love. Purge any and all toxic persons, scenarios and environments out of my life when they arise. Be kind to myself. Treat myself and life how I wanted others to. Say “YES,” to opportunities, regardless of fear. Get out of my comfort zone. Lastly, I Keep Going.

I want the world to know that if I overcame impossible odds, so can you. My brand is about learning, growing and celebrating the wonderful YOU, from yesterday, today and the future. Cheers to you! But if you need one takeaway from this interview regarding your goals, it’s to Keep going!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As someone born and raised here, if you visit Atlanta for the first time, try to find out what you want to do. Focus on scheduling time to see a few places and experience the moment for you.

The former Travel agent in me will tell you, in terms of accommodations, to stay at a hotel with a kitchenette area a few miles around East Ponce. Take a walk, buy some groceries & water for a few days, and Uber back. On days when you want to relax (I recommend the last few days), spend a little more money and book a Hotel stay at Hotel Clermont or a 5-Star (because you deserve it).

You can spend the day ordering Uber Eats as they will supply you with many food options. But if you stay at a location like Hotel Clermont, make sure to book a reservation or room service at the French-American Restaurant Tiny Lou’s.

On the days you plan on being out the majority of the day, plan trips to the following but in no particular order:

Stone Mountain- A beautiful scenic view of Georgia, refreshing exercise in a calming atmosphere.

Mamie’s Kitchen: A little away from the outskirts of Atlanta, but it’s one of the oldest restaurants, and they serve traditional biscuits made from scratch. A unique southern cuisine.

High Museum of Art: Spend a few hours around an eclectic range of creativity. Pace yourself.

A small art gallery (evening)- Visit a small art gallery like Empire Arts Gallery. Relax, socialize and experience unique art in an intimate environment.

2- different Waffle Houses – Exactly. Visit two Waffle Houses because you will have a different experience, and you need to tell your friends all the stories.

A Krispy Kreme if the light is on.

Atlanta Botanical Garden: Experience exotic and beautiful florals in a serene and lush environment. Make sure to take lots of photos.

Beltline walks – Get your exercise in and visit unique shops.

Rest at Grant Park – A large and beautiful park with the most vibrant green grass. Reflect and relax.

Lastly, take a local Helicopter tour around the King & Queen building.

Have fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout-out to my three kids.

When I divorced, they were very young and didn’t understand what was going on. I wanted them to heal from this traumatic situation quickly but I realized I too was in shambles. I tried to be there for them as if nothing had happened but soon realized that I couldn’t. That’s when I decided to focus on healing myself. Not for me but for them. They were my motivation for being a complete human being. I couldn’t possibly teach them to go for their dreams, have healthy relationships and live a fulfilling life if I were not doing it myself.

Might I add, they are excellent supporters and encouraged me to keep going, when I wanted to quit. They would remind me of how far I came from starting a project and to, “give it another day.” I learned that from them.

When I didn’t feel motivated to accomplish a goal, be better, do better, etc., I looked at my babies and understood that at that time, do it for them. -I didn’t love myself enough (just yet) to become better; they were my motivation. I always tell people when it comes to finding initial motivation, “whatever it takes.” This may sound counterproductive coming from a Health and Wellness perspective, but if it’s rage, jealousy, spite, or the ideal of a particular person noticing you, then use that to get up and go. Of course, change and heal that perspective as soon as possible. But if you, currently aren’t enough to motivate you for change, find something else -anything to get you out of your slump. Again, after gaining the new habit, change that perspective. Ha.

I am a completely different person now. I set and achieve goals for myself. Through lots of healing, acting, shadow work, and acceptance, my motivations are out of self-love.

I see them live with laughter, inquisitiveness, freedom, passion, drive, uniqueness, security, and the happiness I desired in my childhood. It’s an amazing generational cycle to see be broken before your eyes. I am so proud of who they are and are becoming. I look forward to what they contribute to the world.
