We had the good fortune of connecting with Lacie Doll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lacie, what do you want your legacy to be?
That’s a good question. The thing I want people to remember the most about me is I didn’t let anything stop me. I remained resilient and focused. If I had an idea I brought it to fruition. I not only did what I needed to do, I did what I wanted to do and I did it damn well. I want people to look at the legacy I intend on leaving behind and say, “Lacie made me feel like the sky wasn’t the limit. I could push myself further.” I specifically survived an old business partner trying to ruin my business and tarnish my name after stealing our old company and money. I didn’t know how I was going overcome it to build my business back up but I remained humble and didn’t give up on myself. I took time off to rebuild myself and repair my reputation and when I had the money I rebought what I lost and continued on the journey to rebuild. That’s who I am as a person and that’s what I want people especially women to think about when it comes to me and themselves. As long as you don’t give up on yourself you always have a chance to do what you want. Your life is your own, you can fold at the site of adversity or you can prevail…. Always choose to prevail. Don’t let yourself give up.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I own and operate multiple businesses to include an independent production company called Unclassified Media, a make-up line called Fake Beauty, a lingerie line called Laced by Lacie and a podcast called LACIEOLOGY. I’m the most proud to be able to still be in business and thriving. I’m excited to expand my make-up and lingerie lines into physical stores and distribute all of my film projects on other platforms like amazon very soon. I think the thing that sets me apart is I’m not afraid to step outside of the comfort zone that most film directors or writers stay in. I explore my femininity and appeal. I love to feel sexy and I love when other women feel sexy. So yes, I can stay home and write an amazing story, spend an entire day on set producing or directing but that is not my only identity. The same goes for my other businesses. I can be sexy and feel comfortable and free in lingerie but my sex appeal and beauty aren’t all I have to offer.
I got here today by remaining true to myself and being brave enough to go against the grain. It hasn’t been an easy journey though. Even though being comfortable in my femininity is something that makes me feel empowered it has at times, made others feel emboldened to disrespect or disregard me as a professional. It makes it that much harder to command a film set but I’ve let my work do the talking and my professionalism and knowledge lead the conversations.
Oh, I’ve learned tons of lessons along the way. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to watch who you go into business with. Be weary of everyone even romantic partners. The moment they can steal what’s yours and slap their name and entitlement on it they will. I’ve also learned to maintain my personal credit score because when you’re starting out it’ll be virtually impossible to start building real business credit without leveraging your personal. I’ve also learned to make sure your your T’s are crossed and I’s are dotted at all times. You never want to give anyone including the government the chance to steal your business or reputation from you.
I want the world to know my brand is being built off of sheer love for what I do. The world should know I came from a long line of house makers and stay at home wives. Being my own woman and owning my own businesses isn’t just for me. It’s for all of the women who came before me who couldn’t even imagine stepping out on faith and building their own wealth and joy.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places to go and see in the city. My favorite tourism spot is the rooftop at Ponce. I think it has a little bit of something for everyone. It has outdoor carnival games, a perfect view, secret bar, indoor games, restaurant and eatery attached and privacy. It’s definitely a must if you’re in Atlanta. I also love the museums here. We have some of the best museums and illuminariums. Being able to escape into another time and another place with the exhibits and collections. For instance if you want to go back to Greece or Ancient Africa you can always go to the Michael C. Carlos museum or the High Museum. The High Museum also hosts an event for the culture every first Friday which I think is also really cool. I never knew a museum to host a party but in Atlanta anything goes! That’s why you have to love the city!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my family, friends & supporters for always supporting me and the nay sayers who tried to stop me. Without my family and Friends I wouldn’t be here today. This past year really showed me what support looks and feels like. I’m one of the lucky creatives whose families have their back at all times. I also have a loyal group of supporters and fans who bought lingerie or watched my short films this past year when my name was being drug through the mud by an old business partner. I spent so much time worrying if taking the high road through such vicious attacks was the right option and through their unwavering support I realized it was. I also support those who threw stones. Dodging them and even being hit by a couple really reminded me not to give up. It reminded me I’m a threat and there are people that see my greatness so much they physically and literally would try to minimize it. That was my fuel. That motivated me. That helped ground me in my why & kept me pushing forward even on the days when all I wanted to do was give up!
