We had the good fortune of connecting with La Cretia (Cree) Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi La Cretia (Cree), what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I came up with the idea for my business due to experiencing the lack of stability within my career in corporate America and being surrounded by love ones who constantly shamed their bodies. God gave me a calling to encourage women to style the body they have based on what works for them. Currently, we’re living in a world where social media rules and some women feel disconnected if they’re not able to accomplish a certain look that they’ve seen trending.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Unlike others, I believe that style is an intimate expression that first starts within and this is what makes it personal. What works for one woman may not work for another and that is perfectly fine. The key is self-acceptance, authenticity, and choosing styles that express you rather than mimicking someone else.
Honestly, I am still not where I would like to be but I am forever grateful for where I am at. Is this an easy business? Absolutely not! It is very hard and it takes hard work, networking, and dedication to reach the level of success that I envision for myself.
I’ve learned that trying to be perfect is mediocre, believing you can do it alone is ludicrous, even Jesus needed help!
I will always be true to myself and my clients. I will never agree with anyone just to take their money.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Surprisingly, I am a true introvert and I am very content at home and so is my best friend (the one that comes to visit). However, I do enjoy outings at times. Our week itinerary would include a night at Hal’s Steakhouse in Buckhead for a nice steak dinner for her and I would have Snapper Franchaise, a day at Phipps Plaza mall, I love the peace at Phipps. We’ll spend a day in Little Five Points as I love the vintage shops and the different eateries. I have yet to try Ethiopian food and I’m sure she’ll be opened to it. We’ll have a fun day bowling at Bowlero Atlantic Station, add a night of Jazz at Red Light Cafe and close the week with a day relaxing at Iwi Fresh Garden Day Spa.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I have to give all praise to God for giving me the courage to start my own business. I am a Christian and at times my faith is tested. I didn’t believe that I could do it but with talking to the highest and waiting for answers allowed me to move my feet. My family is my biggest support, especially my oldest daughter. My teenager helps me out with navigating social media when I need her. LOL My husband is the best! He understands my vision and has made many sacrifices for my business. I would like to give a special shout-out to Brenda Underwood the owner of Breakthrough for Life she is awesome! My business was a mess until I started her coaching program. There were so many areas that were lacking and I was totally unaware until I connected with her. I use to believe that everything had to be perfect to get started and she made me realize that getting started and being consistent is more important than trying to be perfect. Last but not least, the book “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, it really helped me change my mindset and look at life from a totally different perspective.
