Meet Kyuri Kim | Motion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyuri Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyuri, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk, to me, is an essential element of growth and opportunity. While it’s important to make safe choices, I firmly believe that sometimes, taking risks is necessary to achieve great results.
The biggest risk I ever took was after graduating with a degree in Sculpture in Korea. I decided to pursue Motion Design, a field different from my major, and move to the United States to study it. I was worried about overcoming language barriers, cultural differences, and learning a completely new discipline outside of fine arts. However, I trusted my passion and chose to take the leap.
Through that decision, I was able to push beyond my own limits and gain the confidence to apply my background in fine arts to the field of motion design. I believe it was this willingness to take risks that brought me to where I am today.
Additionally, while translating the ideas in my head into design often came with challenges, I learned to find new directions through failure. This experience taught me the importance of constant growth through perseverance and exploration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hello, my name is Kyuri Kim, and I am a motion designer currently based in New York.
My design work is rooted in a diverse artistic background, including Fine Art and Sculpture, which allows me to create unique and distinctive designs that stand apart from others.
I believe that art is at the core of growth and opportunity, and sometimes, it takes courage to take risks. While making safe choices is important, I’ve learned that stepping out of my comfort zone is when truly meaningful results are achieved.
A major turning point in my journey was when I decided to pursue Motion Design after majoring in Sculpture in Korea. Moving to the United States to study this entirely new field was a big challenge—it required overcoming language barriers, cultural differences, and learning a discipline outside of fine arts. However, my passion for creativity motivated me to take this bold step, which helped me push my limits and discover new ways to apply my fine arts background to motion design.
Throughout my creative process, I’ve often encountered failures, but I’ve learned to embrace them as opportunities to explore new directions and possibilities. Transforming abstract ideas into tangible designs can be challenging, but these experiences have been instrumental in my growth. I believe failure is a valuable asset that drives continuous learning and exploration.
Through my work, I aim to deliver empathy and inspiration. My goal is to blend the foundation of fine arts with the dynamic potential of motion design to tell stories that are uniquely my own. My journey is a testament to how passion, resilience, and the courage to take risks can lead to meaningful growth and change.
Thank you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to recommend the perfect trip to my friend, I would suggest visiting Hawaii.
I had the incredible opportunity to encounter dolphins and sea turtles in Hawaii, not in an aquarium, but in the vast, open ocean. The color of the ocean was a stunning emerald green, shimmering under the sunlight. Seeing dolphins gracefully swim by and sea turtles gliding peacefully through the water in their natural habitat was a truly breathtaking experience. The way the sunlight danced on the water’s surface and illuminated the vibrant hues of the ocean added to the magic of the moment.
Watching these magnificent creatures in such a serene and beautiful setting gave me a sense of freedom and wonder that words can hardly describe. It was such a moving and liberating moment.
If my friend were to visit, I would absolutely take them to experience this. It’s one of those rare, unforgettable moments that stays with you forever—a perfect blend of nature’s beauty and the serenity of the ocean. 🌊🐬🐢
