We had the good fortune of connecting with Kurvy Kerri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kurvy, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
The specific habit that I feel contributes to majority of my success is my CONSISTENCY. In order to to elevate in any business, you must be consistent. Even when everything is not going at your pace or on your time, consistency is the key. It shows determination, faith, and let’s people know you are serious. Believing in yourself is the number one factor needed to succeed and reach the ultimate goals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ten years ago my bestfriend, (Jay Flyy) encouraged me to start a model management company. I came up with Kurvy Girl Model Management. This was not an agency but only a management service for experienced models. I started with four ladies that I knew personally and from there it grew into something beautiful! I’ve expanded from Birmingham Alabama to Georgia, Texas, Florida and Houston. My models are all over and travel. We have worked with celebrities such as Infamous Thierry, Fredo Bang, Boosie, Rick Ross, Asian Doll, BRS KASH, Lil Duval, and more. I’ve even casted my models for Tyler Perry! The road has not been easy because people have their own perception and create a narrative that isn’t true instead of truly understanding the passion, professionalism, and hard work behind being a model. In this industry “urban” modeling is not considered high fashion modeling. We can thank social media and influencers for creating a lane for us to fit in. In today’s society models are able to make millions! The name Kurvy Girl does not describe the actual clients I work for but represents me. I am the Kurvy Girl in Kurvy Girl Model Management. That’s a fun fact people always get confused! A few of our professional services include video modeling, hosting, photography, branding, and more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A few exciting places I would take my guests is Urban Smoke Bar and Grill. This is one of my classmates restaurant that has become a high traffic, household name, with the best food and drinks in town. I would take them to the newly debuted FLASH SELFIE LOUNGE which is a fresh business but something fun to experience and different! Lastly we would go to Onyx of Birmingham which is one of the most beautiful clubs in the city w/ a pool they have great drinks and the owner is amazing! I would also stop by J&Rs Lounge they have the most amazing potatoes, music, and staff! One of my favorite go to spots!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize a few people who are definitely the reasoning behind my success. My parents, Dr. & Mrs. Gary C. Bland. They instilled in me to be honest, work hard, and never give up. They are my number one supporters and have afforded me every opportunity to be successful. My brother, CJ Bland, is an inspiration to me and has always loved and shown me support and that means the world to me. His love pushes me to take everything to the next level! My mentor, Janice Perryman Henderson, changed my life and way of thinking. She taught me the ropes of being a strong black woman and business owner. She showed me the way to capitalize and work for myself. She invested in me and is a great example to follow. Lastly, my cousin, Derelya Webster Harris has shown me that no matter what you go through in life you always have a chance to elevate to be a better version of yourself. Your past does not reflect your future. She helped me realize my worth when I was “short changing” my self. For these people, I am forever grateful.
