We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There wasn’t much of a thought process behind starting a business. Since my teenage years, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and my stepdad has been a business owner for as long as I can remember. Throughout those years, he saw that in me and would give me little entrepreneurial tasks to help cultivate the skills and interests I was already showing. I’ve only had two jobs in my life, and I haven’t worked a traditional job in over 10 years. It wasn’t really a conscious decision—it felt more like a calling.
What should our readers know about your business?
What separates me from others is that I’ve pivoted from working primarily with real estate investors after learning their strategies and have returned to my community of creators. I started off as a content creator, and it’s a booming industry right now, but what I’ve realized is that most creators don’t know how to properly invest their money to build and grow passive income. Providing them with another vehicle for investment has really become one of my focuses. I don’t discriminate based on the type of content creators—I’m open-minded to all walks of life, and I think my own experience as a creator is what got me here.
There was a learning curve when I found out that the traditional real estate industry didn’t fit with me, so putting my own spin on it has made me feel more at home and helped me hone in on my purpose. Most of the challenges I faced came from those learning curves and realizing I didn’t have to fit in with the norms of real estate. In fact, what has helped me excel is going against the grain.
As for the lessons I’ve learned, there have been many, but if I had to choose the most important one, it would be that you can never be too prepared, and it’s never too late. You can never be too prepared when it comes to retirement because things are always changing. And no matter where you are today, it’s never too late to start. The most important thing is not to procrastinate on securing your livelihood.
The key takeaway I want people to know about my brand and my story is that I’m completely untraditional. I’m packaged pretty, but I’m rough around the edges, and the main thing I live by is not letting other people influence my journey in a negative way. I’ll find the silver lining in any situation and make it work in my favor. The more you focus on what’s in your control, the more success you’ll find.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had someone visit me for a week, I’d put together an itinerary featuring some of the restaurants from my little vault. I’m such a foodie—I might’ve been a food critic in a past life—so we’d definitely be eating well. I have my regular spots, but I love trying new places as much as possible. I’d probably dive into my vault of different restaurants and pick a variety of places. Some currently in my vault include the Wagyu House in Atlanta, Hideaway at the Baxter, a unique Thai restaurant, and a few others.
So, there’d be a lot of eating and plenty of unique experiences. I also love attending private, curated events like live music, comedy shows, private parties, or concerts. I prefer these over lounges or clubs. Since I’m pretty spontaneous, we’d go with whatever fits the vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to give a shout-out for my success, it wouldn’t be to just one person—it would be to my tribe. My closest friends have really helped me navigate the growing pains of business and given me an outlet to discuss things that aren’t the norm for most people. We share a lot of our own experiences with each other to help each other grow. So, whenever I’m going through something that needs a fresh perspective, my tribe is always there to offer advice and new viewpoints to consider.
