We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Hendricks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
I pursued an artistic and creative career, because I believe I was made to create. We all are in some way. The majority of my family are creative but the one family member I refer to the most, is my mom. She was a music teacher, florist, creative and artist. She created the most beautiful floral arrangements. She is one of the reasons why, I do this and named my decor business after her. “Lillie DeLaine” I spent a lot of days in her shop, and even though I did not give much interest to flowers back then (which I love them now), the experience of just being in the room I think sort of, indirectly ignited my own creativity. At home, I would often rearrange the furniture in my bed room and was told by my dad that, when I was about 5 or so I would say, I couldn’t wait to get my own place so I could decorate it how I wanted it. But, it wasn’t until my senior of high school, that I actually really recognized and discovered my own creativity after taking an art class. I later developed a love for architecture and thought that I would study it as a major, but decided it was way too much math and went with Interior Design, instead. As a result, I was blessed to have the opportunity to obtain a Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design and have been working in the field ever since.
Lillie DeLaine, is an online Decor Retail Shop, where we design and create print on demand, handmade and custom decor for the home, such as canvas art and decorative pillows. Plus, everyday living products, like tote bags, mugs and journals. I am also, the owner of Kristen Hendricks Creative Consulting LLC. Where, I help you discover your own personal style, by teaching you how to build a complete, practical design plan, from which you can create authentic, beautiful and functional living spaces for your home. I believe good design takes time and that your style is enough. Taking the time to create something that is unique to who you are is important, after all it is your space and you live in it everyday. Why not take the time, to create something you can call your own, and that you will love. I am most proud and excited about taking the step forward in creating a business. It is challenging but worth it. I have learned to kick perfectionism out the door and just do it. Taking it one day and one step at a time. I am a work in progress and it is a continual process and journey. I have learned a lot about myself, the good, bad and ugly and wouldn’t change anything, as I continue to move forward. I want my work to speak for itself. Not everyone is the same, we all have different tastes and styles and thats okay “Your Style is Enough”. I am hear to listen and help you create something beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well first of all I am a mom, and that rarely ever happens, but if you must ask. We would definitely would go out to eat at a local restaurant, nothing fancy and just talk and laugh. We would probably go to a movie or a painting class, some kind of making something class, because that’s just me. Or find something on Groupon, does that count? Fun to me is going to the park, or an art store, lol. Exciting people to me is seeing my family and friends. It may be plain jane, but I love it. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I could shoutout and give thanks for helping me get where I am. First God, I wouldn’t be here without Him. My entire family, really. My parents, husband, my daughters, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and closest friends, have all helped me in some way, from being my first clients, to being someone to vent too or being my biggest cheerleader. It really does, take a village.
