We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristal Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristal, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Some habits that I believe have helped me be successful are remaining humble, providing superior customer service and practicing purposeful prayer. My main goal is to make sure I am providing the best customer service I can possibly give. That’s so important to me! I want anyone who decides to order a dessert from my business to feel like they’re making a smart decision. I always treat people how I’d want to be treated if I was supporting their small business. Also, I pray about every decision I make concerning Sweet 52 Ave. This is my baby and I need to make sure it’s healthy and thriving so it can grow and expand! I write out my vision for where I want Sweet 52 Ave to go so even if I shoot for the stars and don’t make it, I at least reached the sky.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create desserts and every dessert I create is a piece of art. No matter how much I try, no dessert ever comes out identical which gives it more personality in my opinion. Being an artist is such a liberating feeling. It allows me to create and develop recipes filled with love to make someone else happy. My sweethearts (a nickname I give to my customers) will give me a vision or an idea of what they want and then leave it up to me to bring it to life. It’s amazing to see people when their eyes light up once they see what I’ve created for them! That’s one of the best moments as an artist- to see people fall in love with my work. I’m most excited about working alongside other local small businesses. Us supporting one another can take our dreams and make them reality. And it never hurts to show other creatives some love!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food – 5 Spot Cafe (Lawrenceville), Thumbs Up Diner (Atlanta), Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks (Atlanta), Busy Bee Cafe (Atlanta), Cue’s BBQ (Lawrenceville) Visit – Ponce City Market (Atlanta), Sky View (Atlanta), Chateau Elan Winery (Braselton) Hangout – The Painted Pin, Trap Music Museum (both in Atlanta)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the lovely ladies of the Atlanta Metropolitan Alumni Chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority, Inc. Affectionately known as #TeamAMAC. I have such an amazing group of women around me that encourage, support and pray for me wholeheartedly and without them, Sweet 52 Ave would not be where it is now. It’s too many of them to name individually, but every single one of them hold a special place in my heart. They have invited my business into intimate moments of their lives including weddings, anniversaries, charity events, socials and so much more. Plus, this group of phenomenal women deserve all the kudos for the amazing work they all do throughout the Atlanta area through various volunteer and service projects!
