We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristal Bryant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristal, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I studied Culinary Arts for 4 years so cooking has always been my passion. After working in the food industry for many years, I started branching out and baking cakes. The baking side allowed me to be more creative and expand my passion of the industry, and that’s when I decided to open a bakery.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think my creative mind sets me apart from other bakers. When creating art, there should never be a limit on creativity! You should always strive to make your creations better than before! Im most proud of where my business is today! When you start a small business, you take a great risk because you don’t know whether you will succeed or fail. Im grateful to have been successful over the years. Operating my business has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding task in life, but the road to success is a bumpy ride. I lean on my faith to overcome any challenges I face. I’ve learned that having a great support system and team makes my job much easier.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a big foodie, so I’m always looking to try a new restaurant or bakery. We would definitely visit Chuck’s Fish in Birmingham for Sushi and drop by Queen’s Park for drinks. Maybe visit the art museum and definitely Shop!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mother was a big inspiration for success! As a kid, my favorite task was being in kitchen with her. She would always let me help and that inspiration is 100% the reason I’m a Chef today. She was also my main investor when I started my business. After working at the Post Office for 36 years, she retired and loaned me $15,000 to start my business. I will forever be grateful for her for that!
