We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristal Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up I always had a love for cakes, well dessert in general. I remember as a child always saying one day I would open a bakery named “Kristal’s Kake and Kookies” the name had to have all K’s lol. As time progressed I strayed away from my passion to consider doing other things that I loved, none of those avenues stuck with me. In 2018 I decided to take a leap of faith and take some online cake classes and from there Kristalized Sweets was birthed fully. As much as I wanted a bakery growing up, I didn’t expect for baking to be as big as it’s getting. I’ve had a lot of self doubt during the growth of my business but seeing my own growth is what me keeps going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Kristalized Sweets is all about the experience. We try to provide our customers with upstanding customer service and great quality desserts. It’s been a journey these past 3 years. It has not been easy at all. I’m a full time mom, I have a full time job and I also run my business solely by myself, full time. Some days are definitely easier than others and some days can definitely be overwhelming. When they say “it takes a village” it truly does when you’re juggling all of these things at once. I’ve had some obstacles that taught me to be a better planner, be a better problem solver and don’t buckle under pressure. I don’t like to feel as if I’ve let someone down so I try my hardest to be the best me and I’ve learned that sometimes even at your best, you make mistakes. It’s not about how you fall but more about how you pick yourself back up. I want people to know that I take pride in what I do, Kristalized Sweets is my baby and as long as you trust me, I’ll provide you with what you’re looking for plus more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man, there’s a lot of great hidden gems in the city and some popular places we’d have to go too. My first go to is always BQE, the vibe at BQE is unmatched, from the live band to the great food. I’m a lover of all things ice cream so we would definitely have to get some @onesoncreations_ ordered because Malcolm’s ice cream is some of THEE BEST ice cream I’ve ever had. There’s also a hidden ice cream shop on the beltline that we can stop called Butter & Cream by while scootering through the city. Cafe Circa, Suite Lounge, Cirque, OLG,— to name a few restaurants that I enjoy. There’s also this new spot in McDonough named G.O.A.T that has some of the best fried chicken I’ve tasted in a while that we’d definitely have to go to. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Whew, where do I start? Well, first I’ll start with God, he has seen me through some times that I didn’t think I would make it through in business. Then there’s my parents, although my father is no longer living I know that he’s proud of me. My mother, she keeps me grounded when I’m not feeling like my best self, she encourages me and supports me no matter what. My daughter, Khari, she’s one of my biggest cheerleaders. My sisters: Mia, Kelsey & Tana. Some of the best cake sisters a girl could as for : @koyaskre8tions, @justonebitecreations, @karannaskreations, @whisked_tn and MANY, MANY more who inspire me. My best friends and supporters who ride for me, I love y’all! And last but certainly not least, my customers, new and old, thank you for always trusting and believing in me to provide you with great customer service and great tasting and looking desserts.
