We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up, I had always been a creative person who loved creating things and capturing beauty. I picked up photography for a little while in my early teen years but as life got crazier the older I got, I kind of moved on from it. After I graduated college, I was trying to grapple with my plans not working out the way that I wanted them to and where to go from there. That is when I decided to start Classic City Photography. It was a way to fuel my passion for creativity and generate extra income while getting to serve people and capture their beautiful memories and milestones.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The biggest thing that I try to emphasize in my business is service. From the moment you inquire with me I am doing my best to serve you no matter if you book with me or not. For my wedding clients, this looks like engagement style guides to help you pick out your outfits, a vendor recommendations list of people I have worked with that I know beyond the shadow of a doubt do good work, and I even help you build the perfect timeline for your day. There are numerous other resources that I offer throughout the wedding planning process. I think one of the most important things that I bring to the table is for the day of, I am an extra bridesmaid and hype woman for all of your needs. I make sure that I know exactly what needs to be done and how to quickly problem solve to keep the bride and groom as stress free as possible and they don’t have to think about anything and they get to just enjoy their day.

For portrait clients, service looks like style guides for dressing your family and picking out everyone’s outfits to engaging with kiddos when the last thing they want to do is take pictures and mom is fretting because she just wants one good Christmas card photo. I take it as my responsibility to serve each family by helping them have a fun and easy going experience during their session.

I do my best to do whatever necessary to go the extra mile for each and everyone of my clients.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to brunch and a fun day of arcade games and mini golf on the Ponce City Market roof. Then on another day take a stroll around the botanical gardens and then to cool off at the Georgia Aquarium. And I would probably end with dinner and a show at Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse. I am a huge theater geek so that would be the perfect ending to a week in the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has always been my biggest supporter through everything. They modeled for me when I was first starting out so I could get some practice with my camera and have some marketing material. They bought me gear and equipment for birthdays and Christmas and referred me to anyone they knew looking for a photographer. They really have been such an encouragement through this whole journey. Also, I learned most of everything that I know about my photography business from Brittany Bruce and Naomi Duncan. Though I’ve only ever taken their online courses, they both have been so helpful and encouraging to me through all of their resources. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without them sharing their knowledge and expertise.
