We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I founded A Loyal Society, which is a self care gift box company, after becoming a mother and having a desire for a well-organized way to develop a new self care routine.

Prioritizing self care is the foundation of my business. As a mom, making sure to create space for my own relaxation routines has been key to finding more balance and flow in my daily life, even if it’s for short, but consistent, amounts of time throughout the week.

The intention for A Loyal Society is to always create inspiring relaxation gifts with a sense of elegance and a personal touch.

My hope in building A Loyal Society is to support women with self care made simple, with everything that they need for luxurious mini moments of relaxation, all in one box, for themselves as well as for those they cherish.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I started A Loyal Society originally as relaxation candle line and then pivoted in 2020 into a self care gift box company during the start of the pandemic.

I decided to begin creating gift boxes as a way for people to be able to easily send a box of self care with love to friends and family that they might not have been able to physically visit for awhile. I really enjoy being creative, curating products and of course, also love a great gift myself, so the transition into gifting was truly exciting.

One of my key areas of focus for A Loyal Society has been to make it really easy for clients to quickly select and personalize gift boxes for a great experience. Making sure that our clients have amazing customer experiences and fantastic service with a personal touch is extremely important to me.

One of the lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to always believe in your dreams and know that if you’ve had the vision, you can bring the to life. Trust your vision and go for it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question as I recently relocated here last fall and probably need some recommendations myself! Some of the places that I’d recommend visiting are the new Black Wall Street for shopping black owned businesses, the High Museum for really cool art exhibits and The Select restaurant for fabulous drinks and dinner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I want to send love and gratitude to my family and friends for supporting me in building my business and encouraging me to follow my dreams!

I want to shoutout Ronne Brown, who is an outstanding entrepreneur, business coach and mentor (Find her on Instagram @ronnebrown)! I’ve learned such amazing information from her and she is a true force and inspiration as an entrepreneur and mother in business!

I would also like to shoutout the Mocha Moms organization (Check them out on Instagram @mochamoms) for having such a great network of Black mompreneurs within their organization that I am grateful to be a part of.
