Meet Kris Kesiak | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Kesiak and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My photography business grew in a very organic way alongside my previous full-time job as a graphic designer. With time photography, my hobby since I was a child, started bringing money and I eventually decided to do it full-time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I specialise in portrait and music photography and the thing I’m most proud of is the years-long relationships I’ve managed to build and nurture, I’ve got clients who have been working with me for 10+ years and who became close friends along the way.
I got to where I am today professionally by working hard. It’s a cliche but it’s true – talent only gets you so far. I love what I do so I can’t say it’s been necessarily hard, especially since running my own photography business wasn’t something I envisioned for myself, it kind of happened, but being a self-employed creative definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Glasgow and it’s a fantastic city. There’s plenty to see – museums, galleries (like the Kelvingrove or the Burrell Collection for example), parks, etc. There’s great food in Glasgow too and a visit to Crabshakk in Finnieston is a must – it’s a brilliant fish restaurant. After spending some time in the city I’d definitely take my friend to explore the wilder side of Scotland and travel up to the Scottish Highlands – no matter how well-travelled you are, you are not prepared for the majestic scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I suppose credit would go to clients who had trust in me and my abilities when I was starting out, giving me a chance to learn and collaborate – musicians like Jill Jackson and Horse for example.
