We had the good fortune of connecting with Komel Chaudhry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Komel, why did you pursue a creative career?
Growing up, I knew I wanted to be an artist. I was always doodling on my notes and homework in school and also took art classes almost every year I went to school. After graduating High School, I still created art as a hobby, but over time I lost touch with it. Since 2020, I started pursuing my artistic path as a career after realizing that was where my passion truly lived. Being a creative has allowed me to be my most authentic self and get back into alignment with what makes me happy. Currently, I am an acrylic painter, digital designer, and mural artist. Inspiring others and expressing myself while doing what I love has really made it all so worthwhile.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is inspired by aliens, outer space, and spirituality. Because of the alien girl theme I like to use neon, bold colors in my work. I have always felt like I was an alien and didn’t fit into any social groups, but I knew I couldn’t be the only one to feel this way so I decided to express this into my art for the world to see and relate to. I hope that when others see my art they are transported to an alternate universe. I am most proud of my largest acrylic painting on a 4×4 ft. canvas titled Downtown in Neptune. Something I’m really excited about is meeting more artists and creative individuals in the community! I’ve gotten to this point in my career by putting myself out there and allowing others on social media and in Atlanta at local art shows see my work. It’s been a very hard, yet rewarding experience because I didn’t know where to start. I overcame that feeling by posting my first images on social media and received a ton of positive feedback that affirmed I was headed in the right direction. The biggest lesson I have learned is to create what I love and the right people that admire my creations and me will find me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some places I would suggest for food would be Atlanta Breakfast Club for some delicious brunch then Beetlecat for some amazing Lobster Rolls for dinner. A few places to visit would be The High Museum of Arts and Atlanta Contemporary to see some dope creative work. Then to top the night off, go hangout at Siva’s Tavern in Kennesaw for some good music and vibes. Another spot to hangout at is Underground ATL because there are always cool events going on!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family & friends for all the support they have given to me in pursuit of my artistic journey. If it wasn’t for their encouragement on my creative endeavors I wouldn’t be where I am today!
