We had the good fortune of connecting with Kojo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kojo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
The reason why I chose to pursue an artistic career was due to the burn out lifestyle which the standard world of working a 9-5 entails. The unbalanced days of working and not being able to control the trajectory of giving myself 110% didn’t sit well with me. The skill sets and talents I have which I know if I could merge together, would grant me access to build a reality that benefits me and my legacy in this world.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an artist but a multi disciplinary one. I sing, dance, and create behind the lens of the camera as well. I love to tell stories and with these traits of artistry I’ve found myself fighting harder each day just to be able to use them. The sense of being present and able just to yearn for an unconventional lifestyle that lets me be the artist I have envisioned has been a journey and one that I will forever be on. I’d like to say my passion for creativity in amplifying the seasons of life is my reason in why I go so hard in chasing my dreams. Today professionally I have reached 10k in music streams with my EP Memory Lane , which debuted in September 2021. The project wasn’t easy because I literally was the one who funded everything as well as rolling out the creative and marketing planes for it. I want the world to pay attention to my creative foot prints throughout the real world and even all the way over in the digital world too.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would plan out a trip to visit the Dance 411 studios and take a class. The next thing followed up would be getting something to eat at the Slutty Vegan restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my father! He was the one who literally showed me how to create a safe spaces and also become that for others when they come around me and start holding conversations with me.
