We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiyya Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiyya, how do you think about risk?
Growing up I’ve always been a risk taker. I’d always say “ it’ll either turn out good or it’ll either turn out bad, but I will never know if I don’t take the risk.” In life you only get so many chances. When you don’t take the risk you can possibly lose your chance. When it came to starting my career I stepped out on faith. I trusted that God will let my gift, my talent make room for me. When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe you’ll take every risk necessary. A famous quote I live by is “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”by Wayne gretzky. When you have a dream but don’t take a shot you miss the opportunity to succeed. Yes, you may fail the first try but failing is a major part of success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a licensed cosmetologist as well as a salon owner. I own a salon called oks salon & boutique. Building my brand has not been easy. I’ve failed in my career plenty but that comes with success. I’ve learned to keep going when things get tough & never give up because tomorrow could be the day you make it. The most thing I’m proud of is accomplishing so much at such a young age as well as working in the tv & film industry. It’s so rewarding & exciting working with great people . Also seeing movies & shows get made, watching them & knowing you played a role in it being put together. What sets my brand apart from others is the willingness we have to help others. Nothing is ever personal when it comes to my brand. Everyone gets opportunity. I want to see everyone succeed not just me that’s the difference between me & many others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If anyone is to ever visit lake charles I highly recommend visiting Meeks bistro the food is amazing. They have different theme nights as well like taco Tuesday, karaoke night, Sunday fun day brunch & etc. The vibe is great. It feels like you’re at a family function. The M bar sports bar and grill is another one of my favorites the hospitality and customer service is top tier. Perfect place to get great food & watch the best sports games. Also check out the golden nugget hotel & resort it’s peer luxury from the restaurants, the lodging, the casino & my favorite the pool with the bar inside of it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m extremely grateful for the large amount of support I have. I would not be where I am in life without the support of my family, friends and clients. I Would like to give major recognition to my parents who’ve taught me to never give up & always believe in myself. My sister who always has been a major role model my in life. My best friends for being there every step of my career. Kevonne henderson for pushing me & picking me up when I wanted to give up on countless occasions. My wonderful salon team ( OKS salon) for helping build the foundation of our success. Ms.Brent who has been such an awesome mentor in my life. I am truly blessed & grateful for each & every person that has played a role in my career.
