Meet Kit Forshee | Artist & Music Manager

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kit Forshee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kit, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve been playing instruments like saxophone and guitar since I was 12 years old, and I’ve been in various original and cover bands for over 25 years. But in college, my logical and pragmatic mind had steered me away from music and toward accounting. My reasoning was that I could always do music on the side while I become more financially stable, and maybe I could pursue my interests in music later.
Fast forward to 2016 when my 15-year-old son was learning to play drums, and I thought it would be ideal for him to join other musicians in a band. While looking online, I came across a singer-songwriter who recently moved to Atlanta from North Florida looking for a bassist. His songwriting and recordings were amazing, so I sent him a message. I wasn’t looking to play bass, or even be in a band, but with my background in business and my contacts in the music industry from working in radio at 99X for many years, I wanted to reach out to see if I could help him. I remembered how difficult it was to try to book gigs and not know how to market yourself.
This was the beginning of my business in artist management, and Taylor Chaffin was my first artist. We worked together for several years, and during that time, he released an EP, gained a loyal following while he played all of the popular venues and breweries from Chattanooga, TN to Atlanta, and Athens, GA.
I’m now a member of The Recording Academy and managing other artists. I’m finally able to combine my passion for music with my business skills, and I’m helping other musicians achieve their dreams.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My objective in establishing an Artist & Music Management organization was to leverage my business acumen and extensive background in radio and band management, wherein I also served as a performing member, to assist aspiring artists. Recognizing the financial constraints faced by emerging artists, I have chosen not to impose any fees for my expertise and guidance. I can relate to the dilemma of their situation, as self-promotion requires financial investment, yet generating revenue necessitates effective marketing. By assuming the responsibility of managing the business aspects, my intention is to empower artists to concentrate on their core strength—music—while I handle the intricacies of the industry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am currently collaborating with Josh Purgason, a talented singer-songwriter hailing from Lagrange, GA, who leads the alternative rock band known as Thoughts Are Nuclear. Josh approached me seeking assistance after observing the positive impact I had on other artists. Over the course of several years, Thoughts Are Nuclear has exhibited remarkable commitment, earning opportunities to open for renowned national acts. Their profound dedication positions them favorably for success within the music industry.
