We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly West Public Relations Consultant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly West, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was the need to be a pathway that would assist others with communications, story-telling, and visual branding. This need came from the standpoint of providing media opportunities to clients along with the ability to package individuals (and businesses) in a way that would attract others to their vision.
As a business owner and CEO, I wanted to help those individuals build a credible brand that their customers could trust. The best strategy to do this and increase sales is by creating a reputation that proceeds daily business operations.
With a love of the fine arts, intense interest in digital media, and passion for people, all of those components developed the Kimberly West Agency!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Kimberly West Agency is a boutique public relations firm servicing small businesses, public figures, and start-ups.
What sets my firm apart from others is the ability to infuse style (and flair) into marketing and public relations campaigns. I help my clients think outside the box while telling their unique stories in a way that connects with their customers.
I provide brand design, image consulting, media relations, social media planning, and special events planning for my clients.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Many people are not aware that Birmingham has amazing restaurants that are locally owned and food is grown within the state. The southern cuisine in our area is traditional but infused with a lot of cultures.
We would start at Perrys Steakhouse & Grille and dine outside on the patio. From there, we would drive over to The Summit for a leisure afternoon of shopping, and end the day with pedicures at Woodhouse Spa. Of course, any girls’ weekend isn’t complete without, Sunday brunch at one of the many wonderful brunch spots in the area!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I would like to dedicate this Shoutout interview to my mother, who always encouraged me to be a visionary. As a child, there was no limit to the number of arts and crafts in our home. Her greatest motto is to think outside of the box!
Secondly, I couldn’t leave this interview without recognizing my dad as well. His perspective on business has truly impacted me as a woman of color. My dad encouraged me to pursue my dreams and inspired me to be solution-oriented.
This question couldn’t be answered without giving a special Shoutout to my husband for supporting me during the launch of my business.
