Meet Kimberly-Nicole Twiggs: Benefits Specialist and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly-Nicole Twiggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly-Nicole, what matters most to you?
Freedom: Freedom isn’t always free, even amongst the individuals you are around constantly. Some have their own view on how others should be living their lives and work extremely hard to see those views enacted. This is why for centuries, the diasporic group of people I come from have fought for that freedom to just exist. I am grateful to have the freedoms I do and persistent in the fight for those freedoms to be equal. Without them, as a black woman in the United States, I would not be able to speak freely, walk about freely, choose the type of work or tasks I want to do, or have control over my body. Individuality: Self-expression is a unique principle because everyone does it differently. Some individuals flow with the norm and others go against that grain. I enjoy the freedom to speak openly about my feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and personal preferences. I can express myself through artsy tattoos or as many piercings as I want. WHATEVER it is that I decide to do, I feel that people can get a glimpse of my personality by the way I carry myself and present who I am to the world. Of course they’d have to get to know me to learn more, but my individuality is the one thing that tells the world, “Hey, I’m Kimberly.” Sustainability: The planet matters too much for us to be treating it the way we do. We must find better alternatives and actual solutions to the problems plaguing us, such as: Global warming, eco-friendly materials, water consumption, animal welfare, poor educational materials on the subject, pollution and littering, and basically undoing the damage humankind as done. We must be kind to the planet, animals, and plants that allow us the comfort to survive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My personal work encompasses a few fields: Film and theatre, the sciences and the environment, education and activism. I use film and acting to entertain/teach people about the sciences and the environment, so that we can be more aware of how to save our planet and how we can be accommodating to those who are different from us. Those who do the work that I do have their own reasons for why and how they enact their art, but these are mine and they make me a soprano singer in a crowd of altos. Professionally, I got here by having a background in film AND being connected with many up and coming videographers and set crews. I attribute much of the success to their resilience. It has not been an easy process being a small corporation because we are all having to wear so many different hats, but we’ve made it work and work well. Some takeaway lessons from this experience is to have patience, have humility, take feedback and advice, be prepared, and be assertive in the vision that you have. Also, teamwork will make for a very lovely project!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the following individuals: 1. Sade Norton – Sade has been my motivator, my contributor, timely, and always ready to create. On top of that, Sade has become my friend and has helped me through some of the toughest times of my life. She has helped me to rediscover myself, as I get so lost in my producer duties, that I don’t always remember who I am. 2. Stacia Rayon – Stacia, who has also become near and dear to me, has brought her wisdom and patience into my life, something I never thought I could have, but she has shown me. She is also consistently there for all of the projects we come up with. 3. Tracee Threats – Although relatively new to our team, her impact has been monumental. She is passionate about film and theatre work and genuinely wants to learn and become better. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed and I appreciate the many different hats she has worn with our team. 4. Janice Irvin – I actually went to school with Janice and we took a lot of our theatre courses together. Who knew that she had the amazing skillset to do set design? She can turn a blank canvas into a home in a matter of moments AND loves every second of doing it. 5. Al Hayes – Al is the true definition of selfless. He gives up so much of himself to better his craft. No matter what he has going on, he always stops to help our team.
