We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly D. Worthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly D., what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Many people believe that you have to be a natural born extrovert to work in television, but that just isn’t true. I consider myself an introvert with extrovert qualities when needed. It is more important to know when to turn up and when to turn down versus just being wired constantly.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I made a career by taking the lemons from my life and turning them into lemonade. I became an Author because childhood bullying led me to discovering a love of poetry. I in turn published an Educational Volume of poetry books entitled “Poetry Is Not Just Rhyming.” Then from there I Created and Executive Produced the Children’s Television Show “Poetry & Life.” Just think, if bullying never took away my voice, I may not have found poetry as a way of self expression I then used the fact that I was not the best cook and became a household name on the FOOD Network starring in “Worst Bakers In America” and on “Worst Cooks in America.” This led me to contributing my very own recipes to a celebrity cookbook that is being released and feature other celebrities such as Jay Leno, Al Roker and Dr. Oz! Growing up, classmates would tell me that I was opinionated and no one wanted to hear what I had to say. Well, I proved them wrong by becoming a commentator on TMZ LIVE and discussing celebrity news with Harvey Levin. I say all this because my career is built off of perseverance and not taking NO for an answer. It was not easy but having the right people around to encourage me as well as having a lot of faith and a great work ethic is what helped me to succeed.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting me in Atlanta from out of town, our first stop would be breakfast at either Chick-fil-A, Waffle House, or Buttermilk Biscuit. If the weather is nice, we would rent bikes and ride along the Beltline to Piedmont Park to enjoy music in the park. I love history so visiting one of our many museums is a must. Some of my favorites are the APEX Museum on Auburn Avenue, The Birth Home of Martin Luther King, Jr, The High Museum of Art or the Atlanta History Museum. I’m definitely a foodie, so for lunch we would go on a food crawl and visit either Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market, or the Sweet Auburn Curb Market and find some local delicacies or International cuisine. After lunch we could get some exercise by visiting Pemberton Place and check out the World of Coca-Cola, The Georgia Aquarium, National Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum.or Centennial Olympic Park. For dinner we would visit a nice hotel rooftop and overlook the city skyline. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a Shoutout to my mother, Ms. Brenda J. Worthy. There were so many times that I started to have doubts even though I knew I was fully capable of achieving everything that I have achieved. But my mom never let me stay down for long. She would always speak life into me and encourage me and convince me that I could conquer anything. From my first book signing all the way to my network release parties, my mom has always and continues to be there for me. I really could not have accomplished half of what I have without her by my side. My second Shoutout goes to my sister, LaShundra Worthy. She always push me to be the best version of myself possible. She also keeps me looking fly and fashionable in the custom design items that her company Artisan Crafts By Alicia provides me.
