We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimber Warren-Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimber, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Many people feel that exploring wine is reserved for those with an intricate understanding of it, associating it with notions of sophistication or exclusivity (which are often subjective). This, in turn, can lead to the belief that if it’s tailored for a particular type of person, why bother giving wine a chance?
Yes, the intricate nature of wine can make this line of thinking understandable. However, what many may not realize is the immense accessibility of wine. Anyone can find their own meaningful way to experience it, within a space and community that resonates with them.
Wine is already deeply woven into culture, and there is a growing movement led by numerous Black winemakers, educators, creators, and influential figures in the wine community. They are dedicated to making wine more approachable and inclusive, breaking down stereotypes and barriers. The world of wine is a dynamic, evolving community where diverse voices are pushing to be celebrated, and are tirelessly working to demystify wine, ensuring it welcomes everyone.
It’s a personal mission of mine to contribute to breaking down these barriers and misconceptions surrounding wine. Whether you’re interested in learning about the intricacies of wine or simply sharing a glass with friends, there’s a place for you and I’m going to make sure you know that through the experiences I share with you.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As an entrepreneur running two services, my business is unique because it marries my passion for both marketing and wine. I offer a range of solutions that cater to both brands and wine enthusiasts. On the marketing consultancy side, being an entrepreneur has enabled me to set my own course, define my brand, and establish a client-focused approach that prioritizes innovation and creativity. I get to offer innovative strategy, develop and execute marketing campaigns, programs, and partnerships that drive growth for top brands, consumers and creators. On the wine front, I provide wine services that aim to make the world of wine more accessible and enjoyable to those who look like me. I curate wine experiences that cater to creatives. It’s not just about sipping wine but also about storytelling. I’m passionate about weaving narratives around wine and creating a sensory journey for any one I come in contact with.
Wine wasn’t always at the forefront of my career; it began as a side hustle, a hobby that I explored through some wine education and event hosting every now and then. However, there was a pivotal moment in 2022, when I was impacted by tech industry layoffs, that pushed me to take the leap and bet on myself. Leading me to transition into the world of wine and becoming a marketing consultant full time.
The journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Moving to a new city, I found myself in unfamiliar territory, disconnected from the local wine community I knew and still learning the specific needs of my clients. Transitioning from the tech world, where I was accustomed to leading major initiatives, was a shift I had to adapt to quickly. I had to start from the bottom finding clients and working in wine on a deeper level. All opportunities I had to actively pursue and put in the work to make it happen. In overcoming these challenges I’ve learned valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the power of believing in oneself. You begin to embrace the ‘No’ and find ways to make those rejections a ‘Yes’.
What sets my business apart is the unique blend of my marketing expertise and my ability to story tell with wine in a unique, connected, authentic way. I bring a fresh, innovative perspective to any wine moment, making it a memorable experience. I live by the motto ‘Always be prepared to transform any ordinary moment into extraordinary experiences.’ I take pride in curating wine experiences that not only satisfy the palate but also engage and captivate the imagination.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still learning Atlanta so admittedly there’s still so much I want to explore but majority of the places I visit will always have a wine moment. Here are some of my favorite wine spots to eat and sip that I’ve been to so far.
Favorite wine shops & bars:
Press Shop in Summerhill – Golden Hour every Friday and Saturday
3 Parks Wine – Wine flights on Wednesday
Vinoteca – blind tastings and great live music on Fridays
Lucian Books & Wine
Fun wine pairings and events:
Kitty Dare – amazing wine events (some focused on wine regions specifically) and tastings that are always paired with a great dinner
Le Bon Nosh – my husband and I try to attend a few Le Bon Nosh cooking classes. It’s always a special intimate experience and I love their wine menu
Larakin – Larakin partners with the best chefs and their wines are always fun and funky
Dive Wine Bar – amazing wine pop ups all over Atlanta
Restaurants:
Rumi’s Kitchen Colony Square
Mujō – highly personalized sushi experience
Little Bear in Summerhill – their story of a pop up now restaurant is amazing!
Aria – its an ATL staple that you must try
Wine/Drinks:
The James room speakeasy
Jojos Beloved cocktail lounge
Cocktails at Bar Margot
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The Atlanta wine community has been amazing to me! I have to give a special shoutout to Press Shop’s very own Ashley Buzzy & Morganne Lee who saw my desire to dive deeper into wine and allowed me to get hands on experience by working in the shop for their weekly Golden Hours. Groups such as The Hue Society ATL, Women in Wine ATL, Wines for the Culture, The Roots Fund and countless ATL creatives/artists who have provided me the space and opportunity to amplify their exhibits in an authentic way, have been priceless. The overflow of support these groups and creatives have offered me always leaves me so thankful.
Probably the most important Shoutout goes to my partner in everything, my forever travel buddy, my husband, Moziah Davis. I’m immensely grateful to have Moziah as a partner and friend. Because of his loving support and encouragement, my journey and career in wine has truly been an enriching experience.
