We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Weber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After spending years working in government and the non profit realm I was feeling lost and without purpose. Not that the organizations weren’t purposeful, they are. But I wanted something different, something of my own creation where I am the contributing factor. I wanted to pursue a passion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art and creativity wasn’t a priority when I was growing up. I was encouraged to pursue practical skills like typing. Maybe it is just my memory but I never attended an art class and always wish I had. I picked up creative hobbies over the years, tried my hand at needlework, knitting, crochet but it was when I picked up pottery that I could feel my inner artist yearning to emerge. I attended my first wheel throwing class in 2012 when my son left for basic training. I always say my first pots are made of clay and tears! Making pottery was an instant connection for me. Within a few lessons I purchased a wheel. Within a few months I had a makeshift studio in my dining room and shortly after my husband purchased a kiln for me! In 2018 my husband converted a dilapidated chicken house on our property into a potters dream studio! It’s an amazing space filled with light and I was finally free to create.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we’d have to have an amazing brunch at The Vick on Canton Street in Roswell. Live music , mimosa and chicken & waffles would be an excellent t way to start the week. Then a visit to Raiford Gallery across the street to pick out something shiny to wear. Wandering down Canton Street we would stop in to Coffee Love for a pick me up, and some home shopping at Linen & Flax. Finally some people watching and adult beverages on the upstairs patio at Mac McGee. The next day we’d spend time at the Chattahoochee Nature center exploring and taking a hike. Follow that was an evening with our friends at Lucky’s Burgers & Brew with either live music, bingo or trivia night.
With Ameris so close we’d catch a concert and for some outdoor fun head up to Blue Ridge or lake Lanier. There is no shortage of places to see and food to eat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Bill Wursluk, who encourages me to create, believes I can do anything and pushes me to keep going no matter what. And my son, Will, who believes in our family business and supports me on good days and bad.
