Meet Kim Carlos | Founder, Host and Executive Producer of The Plus SideZ Podcast

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Carlos and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for The Plus SideZ Podcast came from my experience as one of the first creators on TikTok to discuss GLP-1 medications. When I started sharing my journey, I went viral, and in the process, I built a supportive and engaged community around the conversation. However, as the conversation grew, I realized that we needed to elevate it to a higher level. It wasn’t just about sharing personal stories—it was about getting medical validation, providing evidence-based information, and ensuring that these discussions were reaching a wider audience.
That’s when I realized that the long-form content of a podcast would be the perfect solution. The Plus SideZ: Cracking the Obesity Code Podcast allows us to dive deeper into the science of obesity and GLP-1 treatments, and it offers a platform where doctors, experts, and community members could share their perspectives. With the global potential of the podcast, we’re able to reach and empower individuals all over the world, while also challenging the stigma around obesity treatment. I knew we needed to move the heart and the mind to see change. And I knew people needed this information to be able to advocate for their health.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey of creating The Plus SideZ Podcast has been shaped by a blend of my product marketing background and the valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way. Over the years, I honed the ability to take complex products and explain them in a way that’s easy for anyone to understand. This skill proved invaluable when it came to tackling the complicated subject of GLP-1 medications. Breaking down technical concepts into digestible content is something I’ve always done in my career, and it provided the foundation for bringing clarity to a topic that many people still don’t fully understand.
As the podcast started to grow, especially after we had Rosie O’Donnell on, it quickly became clear that I needed tools to scale and automate things. The growth was like a rocket ship, and restructuring became essential as I was still balancing a full-time job. This taught me the importance of finding the right systems to support growth.
The success of The Plus SideZ Podcast has been beyond what I could have imagined. It’s grown into a platform that reaches people worldwide, fostering honest conversations about obesity, GLP-1 treatments, and the need to destigmatize these topics. With multiple awards in less than two years, we’re not just talking about weight loss—we’re shifting the cultural narrative around it. The community we’ve built, from experts to listeners, has been pivotal in making this happen.
I’ve also learned several valuable lessons along the way. One of the most important is surrounding myself with loyal people who are passionate about the goals. Not everyone who was with me at the beginning is still here, and that’s okay. It’s natural for people to outgrow each other, and sometimes that means letting go of relationships that no longer align with your path.
I’ve learned the importance of finding the right partners and sponsors who align with my brand’s values. Trust and integrity matter far more than simply accepting financial offers. It’s crucial to work with people and brands who share the vision of what the podcast stands for.
Additionally, I’ve realized that it’s okay to make mistakes and be human. The key is learning from them and moving forward to become stronger, better, and kinder. And when it comes to creating content or a podcast, I’ve learned that perfection doesn’t exist. You won’t always have the perfect equipment, software, or time to execute everything flawlessly, but that’s okay. You can still be scrappy, learn as you go, and use free resources like YouTube to fill in the gaps. It’s all part of the journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d start the trip with an afternoon at Ponce City Market. It’s the perfect spot to shop, grab a bite, and even take a walk along the BeltLine. Afterward, we’d catch a Braves game if they’re in season—there’s nothing like the excitement of being at the ballpark!
The next day, we’d explore Atlantic Station for a more laid-back, fun day—shopping, dining, and maybe catching a movie or enjoying the outdoor activities they often have going on.
For Sunday brunch, we’d head to Snooze in Midtown. Brunch is a sport in Atlanta, and their eggs benedict options are a must-try. After brunch, we’d visit The World of Coca-Cola and the Atlanta Aquarium for a fun, interactive experience that’s perfect for a day out with a friend.
For some delicious food, I’d take my friend to Houstons—their prime rib is famous in Atlanta, and you can’t go wrong with a hearty meal there.
If we’re in the mood for some history, we’d spend an afternoon at the Carter Center or the MLK Center to learn about the city’s rich history and its influence on the civil rights movement.
On the last day, I’d take my friend to Cabbage Town for a more boutique experience. It’s a quirky, cool neighborhood where we could bop around the local shops and get a real feel for the city’s culture.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible co-host, Kat Carter. She’s not just a co-host but a dear, true friend who spearheaded this initiative with me and has stayed by my side every step of the way. Kat is a true partner, and I wouldn’t be where I am without her.
I also want to give a huge shoutout to the doctors who donated their time early on, especially when we were a small podcast. Their willingness to share their expertise with our audience was invaluable in helping others heal and better understand their health.
A special thank you goes to my husband, who supported areas of our family that I couldn’t as I worked to help others and grow the podcast. His support has been essential in allowing me to focus on this important work.
Finally, I want to recognize my followers and podcast subscribers from the GLP-1 community. Their engagement with the content has been essential in keeping this movement moving forward. The support from this community has made all the difference.
