We had the good fortune of connecting with Kierra Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kierra, how does your business help the community?
As a Content Developer, I create a variety of content for my audience, Content that is entertaining, conversational, and educational. I enjoy sharing my experiences and skills with my followers for them to also learn to create valuable content, whether it is through graphics or video.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Getting to where I am today was not easy, and I still have heights to climb. When I started as a self-taught designer, I faced a lot of criticism for not studying Graphic Design in college. I wasn’t seen as valuable or taken seriously. With perseverance, I continued to sharpen my craft, made investments, and sought out passion projects to diversify my portfolio.

For anyone who feels they are the odd man (or woman) out in an industry, I say: if it makes you happy, keep going. Take what they think of you and prove them wrong. Don’t compare—simply excel in your lane and cruise to the sound of your own music.

The beauty of being a creative is that no two are the same. Your best distinction is you.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my friend and fellow designer, Charne Smith of Graphics by Royal. She has been of great support to me this year. Her motivation and belief in my ability have been comforting and much needed through the low points of my journey.
