We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiara Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a girl mom of 3, I was having a hard time finding products that worked for our entire household. I was also breaking the bank with each trip to the beauty supply store. My goal is for us all to have a regular hair care regimen. This lead to the creation of Katered 2 Hair Care. Our products work well for any natural texture, while creating more manageable and healthy strands.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Becoming a full-time entrepreneur wasn’t easy by a long shot. There are so many ups and downs. There are also so many days when you’re left wondering. Some days result in no customers while others provide more orders than a single person can handle. I strive to ensure that all my products are fully stocked for times when things can get hectic. Each product is also naturally preserved to lengthenits shelf life. I try my best to promote my brand in every way possible. The road is always going to have a few bends and curves, but overcoming them is the greatest reward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am definitely a homebody and don’t go out often but I’m always down for good food & drinks. We would definitely bar hop a bit with a few appetizers here and there. We would then find a nice place to have dinner. We would end our night at one of the hottest clubs, dancing until our feet hurt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My fiancé and our daughters are the biggest inspiration in creating my business. They are always flooding me with love & words of encouragement. Their feedback to my products is priceless because they tell it like it is. They have definitely helped me tailor each product so that maximum results are achieved with each use.
