We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiana Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiana, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted more control over my finances and success. Maintaining a healthy work life balance that will afford me more flexibility and freedom is a top priority. I started my business so that my son and I could live a comfortable life where we thrive and I could financially secure our future.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business Shert Designs offers casual personalized apparel, accessories, and gifts for women of all ages. I am really excited about the company’s growth and all of the new items that will soon be available. It took many years for me to get to where I am now. When I first thought about starting a business, there were not as many resources as it is now to help anyone become an entrepreneur. I’ve learned everything through trial and error and have made several failed attempts with different niches. Timing was also a factor. I didn’t always put in the effort that was needed to be successful until I found the right balance. The most important lesson was determining my Why and setting boundaries so I could better prioritize. I am more intentional now about all the decisions I make in my professional and personal life. The message I would like to share with the world is “It’s never too late and You are never too old! Everyone’s Winning Season comes at different times! Embrace your journey and Don’t compare yourself to others!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a good breakfast spot so of course we have to eat at Thumbs Up or if we’re feeling brunch it’s anywhere that has bottomless mimosas, good food, and a chill atmosphere. Rooftops are always a good time. Maybe hit up Ponce City or West Village Market to do a little shopping. I love to support boutiques and small business owners like myself. I’m a lover of the Arts, so I love live music, a good play, and checking out different exhibits. I love all different types of food and exploring new places.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God deserves all the credit for keeping me during very difficult times so I wouldn’t give up!
