We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiana Floyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiana, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being with my great grandmother often taught me many things. She had a passion for crystals, fabrics, and add-ons, which often led to her sewing various clothing items for family members. This birthed a spark of creativity within me, leading me to start sewing and designing clothing. With this foundation of experience with piecing things together, I took on my first challenge of repairing a purchased gemstone necklace that had fallen apart. The ease of assembly, my love for gemstones, and peace of mind accomplished while wire wrapping pushed me to take gemstone jewelry seriously. In June 2021 ChakValue was born.
Knowing there’s a story to be told with art has guided me into an industry where I am free to create my own. I feel that art can express a multitude of what the mind forges and devises. It allows me to project my personally unique perspective. This is a big reason why I aim for my art to speak volumes, tell stories, and trigger the imagination. I thoroughly enjoy creating all pieces from delicate and dainty to larger speciality pieces, and extremely detailed custom pieces.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe that my art is elegant, unique, and modern. The attention and embodiment of gemstones is what sets ChakValue apart from other companies. One thing I am most excited about is the current enhancements and developments of the business, from our new and improved website, to our new interchangeable “Teardrop Collection”. This recent evolution has reaffirmed my passion for jewelry and has me immensely optimistic and enticapant of our trajectory. On the day that I quit my job to pursue jewelry full time, I knew it would come with the many sacrifices that I have made to this day. There are weeks that creative juices are flowing, and patronage comes with ease. There are other times where I will go weeks in an artistic deficit, and question myself and abilities. I encourage any aspiring entrepreneur to understand that these are the breaks, and should not be grounds for pessimism or relinquishment. Take a break to refresh your mind, so that you can stay inspired in your line of work. One thing I want the world to know about ChakValue is that we’re committed to providing astounding jewelry and substantial customer service, while continuing to ethically source the best gemstones mother nature has to offer.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are alot of great venues in Atlanta to eat and hangout at. Two places I love to go to are Crystal Blue and Sky Lounge. With a wide variety of crystals and spiritual tools Crystal Blue is my go to spot . My second setting to go to is Sky lounge, because of the astonishing view of the city and exceptional drinks. It’s definitely a distinguished place to take your out-of-town friends.
My two favorite places to dine at are Chairs Upstairs (Eastpoint) and Taqueria Don Sige (Forest Park). Chairs Upstairs has one of the best chicken sandwiches in the city, pared with a White Tea (drink) that’s out of this world. I also can’t get enough of Taqueria Don Sige’s Brilla Tacos, it’s by far one of the best I’ve had.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout-out my best friend and partner for being the driving force behind my passion. He has coached me for over 10 years into the entrepreneur I am today. I want to shout-out my family for always being there for me . Last but not least I want to give a shout-out to my tribe for the love and support they’ve given me over the years.
