We had the good fortune of connecting with Khiana Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khiana, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
I believe the most difficult decision I’ve ever made was leaving my job and branching off to be an entrepreneur. I quit the company I was with for 8 years… tested the waters got scared so picked up another 9-5. I knew I wouldn’t be happy with it, but it was easier than being an entrepreneur. I knew the path I was meant to be on, but I was afraid to see what that path looked like. Afraid of change, and too comfortable with the norm. Well this year I did my last goodbye to a 9-5 and have been working for myself since earlier this year. To my family it seemed like I was leaving guaranteed income but for me I was stepping into a whole new level of financial freedom. I was truly walking by faith and not by sight.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been business minded, and very interested in business management and marketing. So once I became an entrepreneur, everything business clicked automatically. If you would have told me five years ago, I would be an entrepreneur I would believe you, but if you would’ve told me five years ago, I would have been an Influencer I probably wouldn’t have. I knew I’ve always been, multi talented and creative, but being that I get to literally put all of my talents into one and make a living out of, it is honestly my dream! After I had my daughter, it made me realize how much time and effort I wanted to put into motherhood I didn’t want the daycare seeing my child more than me I just didn’t like the thought of that so I knew there had to be change! I’ve always been into YouTube, and I’ve always wanted to start my own channel, but it was all just talk at first. Everything started to become a reality when Covid hit and I was no longer working. I would create videos for fun with my daughter because there was nothing else to do and no where to go. These videos began to blow up And we began to get brand deals. We began to get managers reaching out to us. This had went from something fun to do to ok now this is my career path. The things that kept me motivated were the freedom, the time I was able to spend with my daughter versus working a 9 to 5 , traveling and eating for free, hotels etc but they never tell you about the difficult part about the times where you’ll be up late because most of your brand deals are overseas and only email at 3 AM your time or how some brand deals are super rude and unprofessional but you have to comply, because Payment was already sent, the rude comments and messages you’ll receive no matter how great you are someone will tell you you’re not. I’m this profession you have to be prepared mentally because it is a lot of work, even when it comes to recording three day weekends and having to edit a full day for videos to come out to 15 minutes. I became an influencer because I want single parents to know that things can be done. We just have to do them in a different way, I also want to show mothers that motherhood can be fun and enjoyable without breaking the bank! I plan to start a nonprofit organization for single parents to help if needed and give them a day they deserve to know they’re appreciated!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriend was visiting me in Charlotte we would definitely have to head over to brunch at Tupelo honey for some chicken and waffles! Now when the girls are in town a UGO artistry appointment is a MUST for some facials, then a little shopping at Southpark mall. But don’t let the girly girl vibes fool you though we are adventurous and always down to go to ifly or the whitewater center! Now as far as where we would eat dinner is hard I have so many places I love but my top three is The pump house, The porter’s house, North Italia
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of course I have to shout out my beautiful daughter Aubrei because this is something that we do together! We are ourselves and we show our mother daughter bond with the world and it’s amazing how many people reach out to me and tell me that we are healing their inner child! I also have to say thank you to my whole family but especially my little brother who we call Junior, he has been up with me when I had long edit nights, he’s motivated me when I wanted to give up, and he’s always holding me accountable. He always sends me inspiration and motivational messages at the right time, I am where I am and I’m going further because of his motivation!
