We had the good fortune of connecting with Khalil Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khalil, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Before I started my own business, I was working a job living paycheck to paycheck. Working hours a day and not even liking what I was doing I know that wasn’t it for me. One day I sat down and thought this doesn’t make any sense. I knew I had to take risks and bring some of my creative ideas to life. I knew I was good with my hands and writing. I started my own tv install business, and began to write and record my music which has been a hidden passion of mine. That was a little over a year ago and I have elevated so much. If I hadn’t of taken the risk to step outside of my average day to day I wouldn’t be living on edge as I do now. My life wouldn’t feel as purposeful and filled with things I love to do. I am now over 1 year into my business and working on my second EP to be released this October. If you don’t take risks you will face the consequences of living a mediocre or unfulfilling life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My company Install.Itall specializes in Tv installs, outlet installs behind TVs, ceiling fan / light fixtures and customizing hand crafted sliding doors. It was far from easy to develop the courage to start these businesses but I felt as if I had no choice because I knew I couldn’t keep living the day to day not doing things I enjoyed or even cared about. The biggest challenge was starting up the business. Once I did that the confidence in it, came shortly after. From then I learned to not sit on my ideas and simply take action on them. The worst that could happen is I fail at it. The best that could happen is it changes my life and the lives of others. I fell to my lowest place some years back and had no idea what I was on this earth to do. From there I began to use my creativity and act on my ideas with a huge level of confidence. I can say that it has changed and continues to change my life. Those fears I used to hold on to when it came to stepping out of my element, I no longer hold on to. I use that fear as fuel and it drives me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my opinion one of the best things about Atlanta is the variety of quality food around the City. The number of places to eat and drink seem endless. Some of my favorite places to eat are C&S Oyster bar for a good sea food dish on a lunch occasion or date night. I also love Beetle Cat and south city kitchen for their brunch menus. Beetle cat has lobster sandwich on their lunch menu that is super good! For late night vibes or good drinks I’d recommend Mandolin kitchen. The drinks are some of the best I’ve had, and the aura of the place is unmatched.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give credit to my mother whom I watched sacrifice and pave the way for me to live a decent life growing up. Without her I’m not sure if I’d be half the man I am today. Second I’d like to thank my son who inspired me from the time he was born to be a better version of my self each and every day.
