We had the good fortune of connecting with Keysha Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keysha, how do you think about risk?
“You will never reach your true potential living life in comfort and routine. You’ve got to take some risks.” This quote by Kylie Frances says it all for me. Easy, safe and comfortable are three words you never hear in the stories of great people. If you’re not willing to bet on yourself, do not expect others to either. Risks have played a major role in my life and career. Your fed-up must outweigh your fear. I have learned to leap before I’m ready and I have never regretted it. I have only regretted not taking a leap sooner. So, take notes and take risks.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The biggest lesson I have learned as a creative is that completion is better than perfection! Getting out of my head and making moves is a constant challenge. So, I set my own deadlines and I don’t miss them. I remind myself daily of my goals by reciting the quote “you don’t have to be great to get started but you have to get started to be great.” This quote was the motivating message behind the completion of my first book, Keysha Lee Presents: Filmmaking 101, and becoming a published author. My work is so important to me, but it has no impact on others if only I know about it.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to Pamela Erin Ricardo. The Afro-Latina is Brooklyn born. She’s found the perfect balance of running a fitness business and pursuing her dream of becoming an esteemed actress. Her signature nickname “Pam The Beauty” comes from winning a beauty pageant in New York City. She has taken that name and built a successful fitness brand while working in the ever-changing world of Hollywood. She’s a star and will soon be a household name. Check her out @pamelathebeauty on Instagram.
