Meet Keyilah McCray | Founder and CEO of K.S.M. BOUTIQUE

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keyilah McCray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keyilah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started K.S.M. BOUTIQUE, after studying the gap of body positivity for all and the lack of not having custom apparel or ready to wear fashions available for all body types. I knew this was my calling at the age of 7. I have always had a passion for fashion. From then to now I have been working on my knowledge and execution.
 

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets K.S.M. BOUTIQUE apart from other brands, is offering options for both ready to wear fashion and custom apparel. It’s not easy to find affordable custom designers willing to work with all body types. With K.S.M. BOUTIQUE I am most proud of continuing my journey. This is not any easy field of work and the more you learn and understand how brands operate and become successful, the more task you add to your agenda. What keeps me motivated in the industry is educating myself, being the Founder and CEO of my business/brand, I have to know all the ends and outs of my business/brand for it to be successful. I have spent 3 years in fashion school as well as 8 plus years in the industry as a designer, collaborating, being apart of fashion shows and pop up events. As well videography, and photography all while creating my brand. Must I say I still have so much to learn. I overcome most of my challenges by remaining patient and being persistent. I understand you may not get the answer you want for a multitude of things but problem solving is my niche, and I use this tactic to execute. The main lesson I have learned so far to be successful you must fail multiple times but if you look at your fails like lessons to be learned, your a winning success! I want the world to know so many curve balls have been thrown my way, and still yet I wake up with my calling on heart to keep going and staying motivated. Just know if you find your calling or have a niche stick to it. This will pay off beyond your wildest dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oklahoma City – Itinerary

Day 1- check in the Colcord Hotel and have dinner at the Mahogany Prime Steakhouse

Day 2- wake yoga in the hotel, breakfast at The Hatch. Visit Penn Square Mall for apparel shopping. Lunch at the famous Wing Supreme. Dinner and night out at Cornish Jerkhouse

Day 3- wake, gym sess in the hotel. Breakfast at The Collective, visit Factory Obscura, then check out the downtown shops. Finish the evening off at Bricktown Brewery for food and catch a movie at Harkins Theatre.

Day 4- wake, enjoy Robert S Kerr Park, breakfast at Waffle Champion, check out midtown shops, grab dinner at Ludivine, head in for an early night of catching up.

Day 5- wake yoga, planned networking event in the fields out interest, quick lunch pickup, head back to research options we’ve found at these events, dinner at Florence’s, another networking event

Day 6- wake, gym, breakfast at Kitchen No. 324, networking event, botanical gardens, lunch at NaijaWife Kitchen, night out at Symphony

Day 7- Wake, yoga, breakfast at Press Waffle Co., visit 21c museum lunch at OKCuture, and back to researching

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out God for one, just always keeping my calling on my heart and pushing me to be my biggest motivation and not giving up on my business or myself. Secondly family, family does not always have the best advice or understanding when it comes to your specific calling, just being themselves and responding as they do, I would like to shout them out for doing just that.
