We had the good fortune of connecting with Ke’Yanna Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ke’Yanna, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say the most important factors about behind my success of my brand is persistence and consistency. I believe that you only fail if you quit. I have faced a lot of challenges in my business, but I always managed to keep going by putting one foot in front of another no matter how hard it gets. I am thankful for the bumps, and curves that my business throws at me because I it helps me evolve into the entrepreneur of my dreams. I love that now I am able to handle tough problems that would normally overwhelm me and stress me out like crazy with grace because I have reap the rewards of being consistent and persistent before and nothing feels better in business than reaping the benefits you worked so hard for.

I always had a love for art ever since I was like 6 years old. I use to want to be an artist for the longest because I was obsessed with colors and I would always enjoy drawing pictures more than the average kid. I remember saying to myself as a kid I want to do this when I grow up and get paid lol. When I was 11 years old my mom exposed me to fashion by showing me Tyra Banks show “America’s Next Top Model” Which probably explains why I model for my brand lol. When I was a teenager I use to always day dream about being and model first then start a fashion business and I always knew that it will come true because my dad always told me I can be whoever I wanted to be know matter how big my dreams. You know when you are kids the first people you trust are your parents and the adults that help raise you, so I believed him without a doubt. I was like if my daddy said I can do it I can do it. When I was 16 years old I accepted to a summer school for gifted high schools juniors. It was called Governor’s School, at first I did not want to go because I hate school to be honest, but after two weeks of being there I did not want to go back home lol. I went to study Fine Arts and we created art all day I was so obsessed with the art I made. I had so many pieces of art that I was proud of, it was mostly dress designs and portraits of family members. My artwork was different from the other kids because my art passion comes from fashion, but a lot kids at the school love my work just as the other kids. Over the years as being a creative I learned you can do whatever you put your mind to and don’t ever stop learning.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
One of my favorite spots in the city right now is Piedmont Park, it is so huge and I love that the grass is cut so low, it’s perfect for a picnic. Being that we are still quaraniting, speaking for myself lol. I would take my best friend to Piedmont Park and have a picnic. I would get a huge picnic basket and fill it up with fire sandwiches, fruit, snacks, and most importantly wine lol. When you are with best friend you don’t have to spend a lot of money or do something big to have fun all you need is good vibes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my customers and supporters for believing in my brand. I have so many customers who always DM and tell me how much they love my glasses and how they only wear sunglasses for me and I love seeing the joy on their faces when they tag me on instagram and facebook showing how excited they are when they receive their eyewear and when they are rocking our products. That makes me feel really good and it keeps me going. I would also like to shout of my business friend Briana Parker, she advised me to read “The Magic” by Rhonda Byrne. I would recommend anyone to read that book no matter what profession they are in, it’s a life changer trust me. I’m going to save the best shout out for last, GOD! I would given up a long time ago if I didn’t rely on God for strength and guidance.
