We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Jerome and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I began Obsidian Lux Cleaning Services in 2021 to pursue my passions of owning real estate and building a company that can expand into other states and something that was not reliant on me solely. In addition, real estate requires capital and credit, so I wanted to build a revenue source that could speed up my savings process for my first deposits toward my first property.

Please tell us more about your business.

Obsidian Lux Cleaning Services is a commercial cleaning company working primarily with large industrial, commercial offices, law firm offices and doctor offices. We’re an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau. We provide office disinfection and sanitization, hard floor care treatment, carpet cleaning, green cleaning, carpet spotting, wood floor care treatment, and much more.

We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others?

What sets us apart from the other companies in our industry is that each technician, as well as each manager, is certified in the area that they will be servicing.

What are you most proud of or excited about?

The thing I’m most proud of is that we are approaching the growth of our business from the standpoint of employee happiness. If our team feels they are respected and valued, they don’t cut corners and they will go the extra mile to represent us correctly. By focusing on how the team is being treated and trained, it allows us to scale because we have the right team and culture in place and the success follows because everyone on all levels is winning. I’m just excited about the overall culture we are bringing to this line of work.

How did we get to this point business-wise?

Great Question. Obsidian Lux Cleaning services began initially as a Mobile Detailing company (Obsidian Lux Detailing). Obsidian Lux Detailing started because of a high need for cleaning professionals to help fight the spread of the virus. At first, I enjoyed the work, but as time went on, I realized I wasn’t a huge fan of the labor-intensive task of detailing. At that point, I began looking to pivot in the same industry but with work that didn’t involve so much of my time cleaning all the grime and dirt you can imagine you would see in the Detailing world

Was it easy?

It was a journey for sure, life challenges you to grow when you want to make a change. It was easy to decide to change my habits, but it was hard to do so consistently day in and day out.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that 99% of people fail at what they do because they do not believe that life is uncertain. This belief causes people to revert to old habits and lessons even though they have never gotten them the desired results. Another lesson I’ve learned is, every day, you’re going to learn something new. If you pay attention to the best at what they do, they are consistent and persistent daily at doing the same things repeatedly that got them the first time. They are so stubborn that many would say their life is boring. Boring is where you want to be when you are building.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

What people see today is a far different Kevin than what they may have seen in the past, and this change was intentional. I never gave up, I never wavered, I did not quit on my dreams, and I never stopped working on myself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Well, that depends on which friend is coming to town, but first, we are going to F45 Smyrna every morning at 6:30 AM, then we can have breakfast at my spot and then go to buttermilk kitchen and Tupelo Cafe every other day for brunch. After that, we head to New Realm Brewing and meet up with our close friends there for drinks and hanging out. Finally, after we had enough of the fast pace of the city, we took a one-to-three-hour road trip to the mountains and rented a cabin for the rest of the trip and enjoyed everything about life near the water.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I have an excellent group of mentors with whom I regularly do business: my mother, Marie Deltor, Shavard Branam of Branam & Associates, Rahman Foreman, Fred Hill, and the other associates R&K Wealth Development. These people have helped me listen more acutely. This development has helped me understand life in a way I thought I would not fully grasp until I was in my fifties.
