We had the good fortune of connecting with KESHA NICHOLS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KESHA, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
THE D.A.Z.E.Y. PROJECT was inspired by my nephew Champ who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 8 years old. I became his greatest advocate, learning the right tools, and understanding how he learned. In the process, I realized that each child is unique and learns differently. I believe that every child with a learning impairment deserves an optimal education plan tailored to their requirements, so that they may have a better education and live a life to their best potential.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

THE D.A.Z.E.Y PROJECT is a Nonprofit Organization. We are bridging the gap between the community and resources, for families that have a child affected by Autism or other learning impairments. We provide quality resources through partnerships for a better education for families with children with learning impairments. Emphasizing the importance of early childhood detection, it has come to my attention that many children are being diagnosed later in age 16, 19, 21 even at 32 and this is UNACCEPTABLE. Especially children of color.

I am excited about being able to guide a parent or guardian in the right direction in getting the proper resources that are needed for their loving child to thrive. I am often faced with the issue of where to begin, well we at THE D.A.Z.E.Y. PROJECT has the answer. We want families to know here in Georgia and beyond that there is HOPE, as we strive to educate one child at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Wow, they are in for a treat.  First and foremost starting the day off at one of my favorite breakfast spots is Thumbs Up on Edgewood. For the nightlife there is Friday night jazz at The High Museum or Kat’s Cafe, or a daytime stoll make your way up GA. 400 and hangout at The Avalon in Alpharetta where you can shop, eat and maybe catch a movie. To relax and rejuvenate, I highly recommend Chateau Elan and doing the wine tour, me personally I don’t drink…go figure, but the experience is PRICELESS. Lastly, let’s not forget the Beltline, walking, getting some exercise in and just seeing all the different graffiti artists work along the Beltline telling and sharing their story.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Everyday ordinary people who are doing Extraordinary things in the community and making a great difference in the lives of others. I have had the pleasure of meeting a few Trailblazers while on this journey. Ms. Millie who is the sounding voice for those who are affected by Autism and other learning impairments, and Mrs. Abenna and her organization, National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc. who are huge advocates for literacy in Metro Atlanta. These two women stand out, but there are so many others that are making a difference everyday.
