We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerry Swetmon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kerry, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business in 2010. I was participating in a mastermind with about 3000 women entrepreneurs and I felt very strongly that so many of them had these amazing missions that genuinely brought GOOD to the world. Yet, they were having trouble getting their message out beyond their local arena. It pained me, and I wanted to help. So, I started out offering many different kinds of marketing services from press releases to social media postings to blogging. In 2011 I ran my first Facebook ad and it worked so incredibly well, it quickly became the only service we offered.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are digital advertisers. We mainly focus on the Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest platforms. For the last 11 years, my business has solely run on word-of-mouth referrals. That is something I’m both very serious about and super grateful for. Something that sets us apart is our professionalism. We pride ourselves on being highly communicative and very personable. Our clients feel like friends and most have been with us for more than 3. years. We won’t ever disappear, we won’t ever ignore clients’ emails; our goal is for our clients to feel as though we’re part of their team.
Lessons: Oh my, there are so many lessons learned. Perhaps the biggest lesson is that, in this world of online business, you truly can do and achieve anything. The world is open for business via the internet and every day I thank God that I am able to work from home, earn a nice living and pick my kids up every day from school. Yes, there are days when I feel I’ve not “mommed” well enough but that’s to be expected. For the most part my days tend to be exactly how I designed them and I am so, so grateful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Without a doubt, I’d take them to our cabin in North Carolina (Cashiers/Highlands area). It’s a couple hours drive and is my oasis. It’s the best mix between being off the grid and still having a Starbucks! Shopping in Highlands, pubs and loads of gorgeous hikes and waterfalls.
If in Atlanta, I’d take my friend to Avalon for shopping and lunch, a spa for a massage or facial and then hit The Burgess Hotel restaurant, Fia, for the best food I’ve had in a long, long time (if you haven’t been, please go right now!).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have been instrumental in my journey. My parents lead by example. They worked so hard for so many years, it truly instilled a strong, professional work ethic in me. My husband, Bryan, has always been a successful entrepreneur and was really the catalyst for starting my own business. When we met I was working in corporate and believed that my destiny was to climb the corporate ladder. Working in corporate didn’t leave me a lot of time to be creative and it began to wear on me. I watched my husband go to work every day and make things happen until I finally thought, “why not me?” He has been a huge support in telling me to keep going.
Additionally, I have a few “business besties” that I’m able to bounce ideas off and share the many ups and downs of entrepreneurship. And finally, the people with whom I work – both clients and contractors. They bring me joy.
