We had the good fortune of connecting with Keren Duclosel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keren, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I started the Thrifting Atlanta Facebook Group in 2011 to share my love of thrifting and connect with others looking for affordable, stylish finds in Atlanta. As the community grew, it became clear there was a real hunger for thrift shopping tips and connections with others who loved thrift shopping.

When the 2020 lockdown hit, I introduced the business idea of using Facebook LIVE to host live selling so members could keep thrifting from home and make some money from fashion they had just sitting in their closets. It quickly turned into an opportunity for many women to launch their own resale businesses. Five years later the Thrifting Atlanta Facebook Group has grown to over 70K members nationwide. What began as my passion became a platform for community, entrepreneurship, and empowerment.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Thrifting Atlanta is more than just a shopping community—it’s a movement that empowers women to express themselves through fashion without overspending. We connect over 70,000 thrift lovers across the country through our Facebook group, live sales, thrift store bus tours, and our signature event, the Thrift Ball. Our community celebrates not just the thrill of the hunt, but also sustainability, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

What sets us apart is the way we’ve turned thrifting into a platform for economic empowerment. When I introduced Facebook LIVE sales during the 2020 lockdown, it created a pathway for many members—especially African American women—to start their own resale businesses. Watching them grow has been one of my proudest achievements.

Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced challenges with scaling the business, balancing work and family, and adapting to the fast-changing social media landscape. But I leaned into my community, stayed flexible, and kept my mission at the center: helping others. I also had unwavering support from my husband and family, which made all the difference.

Along the way, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about profit—it’s about impact. Building a business that uplifts others is the most rewarding part of what I do.

What I want the world to know is this: thrifting is more than shopping; it’s a lifestyle, a creative outlet, and a means of empowerment. Thrifting Atlanta is proof that with passion, community, and purpose, you can turn something you love into a force for positive change.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta, I’d make sure they experienced the heart and soul of the city—especially the vibrant Black-owned businesses and cultural landmarks that make Atlanta unique.

We’d definitely explore some of my favorite Black-owned restaurants like Breakfast at Barney’s, Le Petit Marche, and Toast on Lenox. For coffee or a glass of wine, Buzz Coffee and Winehouse or Parlor would be perfect spots to relax and catch up.

Of course, thrifting would be a must! I’d take them on a Thrifting Atlanta adventure, visiting my favorite thrift, consignment, and vintage stores in the city.

For culture and history, we’d visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights and stroll through the Auburn Avenue Historic District. Shopping at The Village Market ATL or one of their pop-ups would give us a chance to support even more Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.

In between, we’d soak in Atlanta’s creative energy—checking out murals along the BeltLine, catching a live event or two, and connecting with the amazing people who make this city such a dynamic place to live and visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my amazing Thrifting Atlanta community. They truly bought into the idea of loving thrifting, sharing resources, and supporting one another. Their enthusiasm and engagement became my social proof that there was a real desire and need for this type of platform and information. They’ve inspired me to keep pushing forward every step of the way.

I also want to recognize my husband, who has always supported passion for my community. His constant encouragement and the “thumbs up” he gave me gave me the confidence to take the leap.

And of course, my mother deserves a special shoutout. She introduced me to thrifting, and what started as a simple activity has become a way of life for me. Her influence planted the seed for what has grown into Thrifting Atlanta.
