We had the good fortune of connecting with Keosha Sath and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keosha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have the desire to be successful. The regular 9-5 was not enough for me it was not filling my cup. People say doing what you love is a part of being successful. I love spending time with my two daughters and I love teaching them new things. I took the energy and passion from both of those things and started a nail polish business for them called Double Dutchess and became a Children’s Book Author two years ago under my name.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My first book, Just Like You, I submitted my manuscript online and got contacted by a publisher that wanted to do business with me. I appreciate that opportunity and experience but I wanted to self publish my second book, Quest Like You, as a challenge to myself. To be honest I’ve learned self publishing is way cheaper but I surprised myself because my second book ended up exceeding my first book. The main difference about having a publisher and self publishing your own book is the exposure. I’ve learned when you self publish you have to control your own marketing and retail placement as well. I literally launched Double Dutchess LLC on Instagram in April 2020 right when COVID happened. Just being honest there are plenty of nail polish businesses on the market, but I don’t get discouraged by them. I’m depending on myself to make these sales and to get the word out. Beauty and cosmetics is not my profession, it’s a hobby turned business. I love what I do, I can spend quality time with my daughters, and I have fun with it. At the end of the day I am doing the ground work for my daughters to take over the business when they are ready. There will always be something to learn and the competition will continue to move forward but as long as you are open minded you will stay ahead of the curve.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You have to check out Warehouse Cinemas built out of used shipping containers, Dine in the Dinner Train at the Walkersville Railroad and climb walls and zipline at Urban Air in Frederick, MD. View some beautiful art pieces at the Glenstone, and lastly make your own soda at the Pop Shop downtown.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give all the credit of my success to God. I did not know anyone personally who was an Author or owned a nail polish business. He opened doors for business with my hobbies.
