We had the good fortune of connecting with Keondre Bynum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keondre, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I stopped waiting for other people to do for me what I needed to do for myself. I began realizing that faith without work is stagnant faith. Therefore, I started making changes to my day to day routine, such as, waking up earlier and going to bed later, being more adamant with posting on social media, and so much more; just to dedicate time to my business and believe I have what it takes to make it bigger than I can even imagine now!!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is my life. I’ve been creating longer than I’ve been walking and talking. I get my creative gene from my mom. She’s a crafter and has taught me everything I know about forms, shapes, colors, and the power of trial and error and trusting your process. Everything else I got from YouTube and google and watching others express their art and getting inspired from the visuals. The only
thing easy about art is my passion for it. I wake up wanting to create and I stay up late making sure my art is the best representation of myself. Truly my passion for it is how I overcome all of the challenges that I encounter. My passion drives my dedication, desire, determination and it keeps me disciplined throughout the process. Every trial and tribulation that comes from my art I embrace. I put that frustration into my art and I give myself permission to feel and show all of my emotions through my work. The lessons I’ve learned are to always follow through, push myself to elevate and always give credit when credit is due. Ultimately I want the world to know my name and know that I am here
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A trip to my town. Well I’m not originally from Durham, NC, I’m from Detroit, MI. But let’s take a trip to Durham! After we get you settled, we are going to grab food and what’s better than brunch? We are going to Dame’s Chicken and Waffles in downtown Durham. Afterward we are checking out the eno River. It’s a beautiful river trail that requires a small hike to see. It’s where I go to find some peace and inspiration. It does help me find my center as well. Then we must have some chill time. You know to regroup and catch up. The best place to do this is any bar in the area because southern hospitality is real and everyone is so welcoming. Something fun is on the horizon now and it’s giving axe throwing and karoke. Hope you been practicing!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
None of this would even be possible without my House of Coutour family, my Mother, and my manager! Together they push me to be my best self, and live my best life. They challenge me and push me to challenge myself especially when I’m not feeing creative. They check on me and love me unconditionally and for them im grateful, and thankful and because of them I’m humble, appreciative and in love with the life I’m living.
