We had the good fortune of connecting with Keon & Nate and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keon & Nate, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting your own business can be a blessing and a curse depending on the situation. If you are an individual who doesn’t like to work for others then entrepreneurship is a great option. It allows you to be the boss and make all necessary decisions regarding your working future. If it’s successful it can afford you the financial freedom that could take care of you and your family. You also have the ability to help others by providing them with employment which can assist them financially. . On the flip side it also comes with some negative aspects (depending on who you ask). You are now solely responsible for everything that comes with owning a business. The same way that it can financially free, if it doesn’t do well it can bankrupt you. You don’t have the safety net of a steady paycheck from an employer. You don’t get paid vacation or paid time off. You are responsible for all taxes, and employee related items. You absorb all the problems and stresses that come with owning a business. It takes a certain type of individual to own a business, and you have to be mentally strong. So while owning your own business can be a good thing, it can also be one of the worst decisions you ever make.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are content creators on the Youtube platform, and our content is all food based. We review the latest creations coming from major brands and tell the viewers whether they should try it or not. We also vlog, cook, and participate in food challenges. When we started this journey a few years ago, we had no idea just how much work it would be. We have to constantly be on the look out for new items and get out content. If you stop putting out content then people forget about you. So yea, the hardest part is keeping up with demand. That aside, we have a lot of fun making content and making people laugh. Honestly I think thats what sets us a part from others in our genre on youtube. We aren’t only telling you about a new product, but entertaining you at the same time. It’s always cool when we get comments on our videos saying things like, “I needed that laugh today. Thank you”, or “you all brighten up my day”. Those are the best comments because it shows that in some way we are helping people, and that’s what matters. The other thing is we are multifaceted and we aren’t just one dimensional. We review new items, we cook, we vlog, we participate in challenges, we spotlight local restaurants, we do it all. Now things weren’t always as smooth as it is now. We had some challenges, and mainly they were just learning. When we started we didn’t study youtube or what it took to be successful. We just started making videos and putting them out. Our first couple of years the videos were too long and we didn’t get many views. We even had people tell us to shorten them, but we didn’t listen. It wasn’t until the pandemic that we were forced to change our format. We were used to going inside of restaurants., but because they were closed it forced us to change strategies. That was the best thing that happened to us, because we began to see growth. The two most important lessons we’ve learned are to study your craft, and listen to advice. Had we done that in the beginning, we would be so much further along in our subscriber count. NO regrets, just moving forward and continuing to grown in our craft.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I can take this question (Keon). I love being a tour guide for visitors, so allow me to give your some awesome places you must try in our great city. If it’s your first time you must absolutely do the touristy things. The Georgia Aquarium, the world of Coke, The Martin Luther King Historic site, the Center for Civil and Human rights, and if your’e into college football you must go to the football hall of fame. Now that the touristy stuff is out the way, let’s take you on a local’s only tour. Start breakfast at “The Flying Biscuit”, “Thumbs up diner”, or the “Atlanta Breakfast Club”. Later in the afternoon take a stroll on the Beltline and stop by one of the many restaurants for lunch. You can also stop by Ponce City Market, Chattahoochee works, or the Krog Street Market and grab a bite. Want to take a walk through the park? Stop on over at Piedmont or the Westside park. You have plenty of space to hang out. If you like BBQ YOU MUST go over to Fatt Matt’s Rib Shack. Not only do they have the best BBQ, but he best baked beans and lemonade in the city. Now I wouldn’t be a good host if I didn’t suggest you go over to Little Five Points because the vibes over there are so freaking cool. That’s just a taste of things to do, but we need to keep this kind of short so I will end by saying this…Welcome to Atlanta
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! We would like to dedicate this shoutout to all of our Curbside Family. The Curbside Family are all of our youtube subscribers. We don’t like to look at them as just subs because they are really the reason we are where we are today. So thats why we call them family. We couldn’t continue doing what we do without the continued support of them. Without support why keep doing it? So we would absolutely love to dedicate this to each and every Curbside Family member. Love yall!
