We had the good fortune of connecting with Kent Miller,MD,FACOG and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kent, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in a small town in the heart of South Louisiana, Cajun country, on a small farm in New Iberia, Louisiana. The son of an agricultural and livestock county agent. father and an English school teacher mother. I learned all of my values, ethics, responsibility ,drive for work. and to reach for the stars and live my dream from both of my parents and my involvement in the 4 H club in South Louisiana for 10 years. All of these experiences taught me that no matter what I did ,my number one priority was that I would make a difference in the lives of every single person that I touched in someway every single day… Though my father had a double PhD in agronomy and horticulture, and my mother had a Masters in education no one in my family, had ever been involved in the field of medicine in any way. To me, they had achieved very big things from both starting off very very poor on small plantation farms as children. I wanted to take my dreams even further, and make myself and my family proud. All of this set the groundwork and perseverance for where I am today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Following medical school, I was fortunate enough to train at one of the top OB/GYN centers in the nation – Parkland Memorial Hospital, UT, Southwestern Dallas, Texas. After completion of my residency, I wanted to live in a small town near a big city that had progressive medicine where I could hunt and fish. Gainesville, Georgia came up, and I moved here, not knowing one single soul to get started on my future. for several years, I was in group practice, but did not feel fulfilled secondary to time constraints with patient visits, coupled with a requirement to move too many patients through the system entirely too quickly on any given day. No one in our town consisting of 42 OB/GYN physicians had ever attempted solo practice at that point in time. I was told again and again by just about all physicians and hospital administration, that I would never be able to survive on my own. But I wanted more, and I knew I could do more… I had a broad patient base and was a very kind and caring physician, and felt confident about taking the risk that no one else had ever dared to take. I was missing my children’s lives growing up, my work/life balance was in disarray, and I was ready to do any and everything in my power to change my situation.
I started practicing in Gainesville Georgia in 1989, and in 2001. I took the leap and opened the first OB/GYN private practice in my town. that is when I first had to learn how to practice business and medicine simultaneously. it was very risky. It was very frightening, and it was very hard. However, I stayed steadfast to my dream and my principles as a physician. Thanks to my dedicated patients, and countless hours of behind-the-scenes work I was busy from the start, and my practice has continued to explode since the time. I overcame the challenges, literally by blood, sweat, and tears as the saying goes. Lessons that I learned along the way, include that no matter what the odds if you feel it, if you want it bad enough – then you can get it with prayer, patience and diligently hard work, no matter what it is that you seek. I learned the importance and truth. that if you decide you will do whatever it takes to get where you want to go, then you are sure to succeed no matter what anyone else thinks or says. This journey also taught me that it could not be more true that if you are good to people, they are almost always good back to you.
Professionally, I have always continued, even though in private practice to remain American board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, in addition over the last 15 years, I have been conferred the honor of being in the top 2% of physicians in the nation.
What sets me apart from everyone else and what I would like the world to know about my brand and story is that I genuinely care about people and about doing the very best job that I can with every patient and counter and treating everyone as though they were my mother, sister, or wife. We are not a practice that herds our patients in and out like cows. rather, I extend my patient blocks of time so that I can really listen and so that patients do not feel rushed. I try to get and stay only a real personal level with my patients.I know them by name, I know their family members, I know what goes on in their lives I know the names of their pets! I feel like this is unheard of in this day and age of managed care and quality of the physician- patient relationship.
My current brand is Kent G Miller MD, gynecology, women’s health, and Allure Cosmetic and aesthetic center of Georgia.
What I also want the world to know is that I would never be where I am today without prayer and God in my life.
The way I see my profession is that I am simply an instrument through which God helps his people each and every day with each and every patient encounter.
I try to make a positive difference in every person’s life in some type of way , no matter how small it may be, with everyone that I encounter every day. I try to exhibit kindness to everyone that I can, and I asked God to remind me when I should, if I ever forget…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I would first of all show them around to what is most special and important to me, which is my office and my mountain home and farm! I live in the country and I’m living the dream on the farm that I always wanted with all of the animals that I always wanted. We are perched high on a mountain and can see Suches from our back deck-some 75 miles away.
Next, we would spend some time on our gorgeous lake Lanier, enjoying boating and the water.
Now that Fall is in the air ,we would head to the beautiful scenic north Georgia mountains to enjoy the leaves, and the gorgeous views – all close to home.
If possible, we would certainly attend a Braves game, a Hawks game, and a Falcons game! How cool to live so close to the ATL home to three different professional, sports teams! of course, I would have to take them to a concert at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium as well!
We would do some hanging out at the belt line, the Georgia aquarium,Zoo Atlanta and the world of Coke.
Then, of course, we would have dinner each night at one of my most favorite restaurants in the area: Pappadeaux seafood kitchen, Fogo de Chão, Bones, Chops and Lobster Bar,Nikolai’Roof on the 30th floor,Spondivits, Henry’s Louisiana grill in Acworth, and of course, we would head to Dillard Georgia for good old country cooking at the Dillard House!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my parents, for their constant unconditional support, and being there with me every step of the way. An equal shout out to my wife and children, who have provided the same, but who have had to live a large portion of their lives, without me at home, secondary to the demands, and hours of my profession. My children have unconditionally, supported me and continue to love me, even though most of the time II was absent to support them and be there for them and attend all of their events, like all of their other friends’ fathers were-but never one time ever made me feel bad about this, though each time it tore at my heart strings.
