We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For my wife and I, it’s always been about how can we serve people better than the day before. We are not afraid of communicating our love for others and seeing each individual, business, or organization as family, not just another name on a list. While the creative and video production industry played such a large part in shaping me as an individual and leader, it also showed us as a husband-and-wife-team where this industry, in particular, needed more light, goodness, and a revival of authentic relationships. That passion for others initially outweighed our fears of all the unknowns and challenges that come in starting your own business and still remains our fuel five years in. And while the work in which we deliver matters so much, we have this belief that the relationships we keep matter so much more.
What should our readers know about your business?
Counsel Creative and Goodstory Films was founded to help product makers connect with others through the art of storytelling. Whether it be through brand development, web or mobile design, or video, our family of creatives leads brands toward their dream result by taking the time to listen first. Our sole mission is to build relationships that last and tell stories that matter. While we are incredibly grateful for the growth that we have seen since the spring of 2015, it’s all about those in which we serve. When our clients win in big ways, that’s what matters the most. We’re most proud of those who have given us a chance to serve. Without them, we are nothing. We would be naive to think that we are the only creative or production agency out there that has a passion for doing good. There’s a lot of great people who want to bring a positive change to this world. We’re not afraid to tell others that we love them and care about them beyond the scope of work. We lead with our hearts and are fueled by one thing alone, doing good.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our favorite spots in the city may look a little different than most, but as parents of now three, we’re all about those family activities. We love the great outdoors, so a quick trip to Stone Mountain is always a nice getaway. When Mom and Dad get the occasional night away, Bar Taco often calls our name. And when the busyness of the week has run its course, the collective fellowship at Passion City Church refreshes these souls of ours. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Where I stand at this moment would not be possible without the investment and care of so many in my life. From friendships, mentors, counselors, family, being a father, opportunity, and life itself, I’m a living and breathing example of someone who has been blessed in more ways than I deserve. The collective of people and experiences that I’ve met along the way have fashioned this mosaic-of-a-life that I see in the mirror today. And the beautiful thing about that is that it’s always changing. While it’s difficult to define that one individual or one source that has made the most impact in my life, it’s not difficult to identify that I am nothing without Christ. He has given me life, abundantly. He continues to open up opportunities for growth that only he can. He has never left my side, even in the seasons where I didn’t shine so bright. He’s taught me what true love is all about and it’s that love and care that has shown my wife and I what it means to truly serve others in life, both professionally and personally.
