We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenney Ellison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My wife noticed my obsession with taking photos of our first child and made a deal that led to the creation of 3 Shot Photography: a new camera in exchange for my PlayStation video games! Her support and the influence of several mentors allow me to travel the country sharing stories through my camera lens and to open a photography studio in midtown Kansas City, MO.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Storyline photography has been my motivation throughout my journey of being a creative and business owner. In respect of other photographers in the business who made the investment of going to art school to earn the title of photographer. I was self-taught, through YouTube and following mentors online.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Kansas City is known for our barbeque and live music on the historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. First I would fill them up on Gates Barbeque with some traditional smoked brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. Then have them wash it down with some James Lemonade. This followed by a night on the town vibing to some of our local musical artists throughout the 18th & Vine district
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
