We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennetha Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennetha, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing about my industry that outsiders are probably unaware of is the entire process itself. The concept and overall design are just a small part of the process. The time that a simple bar menu or even twenty drink stirrers can take is dependent on the design and most importantly the material used. What one may think would only be a one-hour project can be a week-long project.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a creative eye. From mixing patterns and colors, to being able to sketch something quickly from a description; it was second nature. I never realized that this was actually a talent that would set me apart from others until people began to suggest that I start a business showcasing my work. I believe that art should be timeless. Trendy is cool but will it still be a hit ten years from now? Clean, simple, and timeless will always be my approach, and that is what sets me apart from others. Being true to my craft and what I see as art has not been easy but I am a firm believer that your customer or client will find you and see your vision. That alone keeps me going. I have learned that allowing others opinions to shape your work or what you create will only take away from the fun of creating. When you see my work, I want the world to know that it is a true description of me; simple but absolutely timeless!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to the area for a week long trip, the itinerary would be balanced. We would rest or have some form of self care, shopping, and of course great food. I was born and raised in Baltimore, so seafood absolutely would be on the menu! My idea of the most fun and interesting places to check out are the places that make a city stand out; they’re museums, family owned restaurants, and local boutiques or shops.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my village. Those who believe in me more than I believe in myself. Who see something that I often times do not see. This will always be for them!
