We had the good fortune of connecting with Ken’ja Pharr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ken’Ja, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process of starting my own business was I would not say for the love of money but for the love of freedom. I say this because I was in my senior year of college with the aspirations to be an oncology nurse. I dreamed to work with cancer patients due to the fact I once was a little girl at ten years old going to chemo therapy sessions with my mom and her nurses and doctors were always an inspiration to me. The care that they gave was admirable so that’s what I had my heart set on. During clinicals I started to realize the energy I’m receiving is not really one I want to deal with so my thought process started to become what can I do that I’m passionate about and still show others that I care and they can feel that energy. That’s when my desire for the lash extension business started. At the time I started on my college campus and servicing the local community which was Statesboro GA.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Kandikoatedminks that is solely focused on eyelash extensions and anything that deals with that concept from custom tailored lash extensions, private training to learn the skill in depth and supplying supplies to any local or online customers that would like to have dibs on the products used at Kandikoatedminks. I cannot really reflect on what sets me apart from other lash artist within my lash industry as I have not encountered many on a personal level to see or know what is the difference between us. What I can say that makes my business different is I treat everyone as one nobody is different and get special privileges everyone is treated like a celebrity and that Im honored to be chosen. I want people who encounter my business to know that and feel that specially if you’re spending your money with me. I also make sure I pour back into my clients I may host an event and invite everyone out I do not see too many clients appreciation settings within my industry so I would say that aspect sets me apart. Im most proud about the new things that are coming to Kandikoatedminks 2025 I can’t speak on what’s to come because I like to speak on things once they are done. Getting to where I am today was not a walk in the park my first year lashing and gaining clientele in this city I was driving 8 hours every week while in my senior year. I did that for a year straight. Some things I have learned along the way is to be gracious, stay consistent and don’t be afraid of failing its blessings within failure they aren’t there to hurt you but set you up for greater alignment just do not keep making the same mistakes more than once.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my bestfriends were visiting the city of Atlanta I would first ask they mood for the trip are we going healthy or do you want to big your back? Depending on the answer is the result of where we go. If we picking healthy foods my options for breakfast would be a smoothie from Ardens Garden or Wadada. If smoothies weren’t really the avenue they were looking for a breakfast spot would be Toast on Lennox, Waffle House is a classic. If we stepped into lunch. I recommend tassilis for a nice wrap. For dinner twisted soul is my favorite right now. I went out with Dr.Clark and she has me hooked on that restaurant. Another one of my favorites is Divan’s. If im being honest in real life im a nerd I believe my friends know that if they hang with me I like to do stuff like museums, hiking, winery, painting, pottery, poetry, movies and even skating. Im a pretty chill laid back individual so trips with me is always calming more so wellness energy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If I had to dedicate or in other words thank anyone along this journey it would first be GOD without him I am nothing and wouldn’t be where I am today through all the adversity faced. Next up that I would thank would be my clients. My loyal clients who have been down with me for years have had a major impact on my life plus my business. God truly does wonders on that lash bed from the conversations, the recommendations, the constructive criticism, and the people he blesses me to encounter. The little girl in me is always smiling and pleased. There are many books that I have read along the way and one that would be in true alignment within my story is the Alchemist.
