We had the good fortune of connecting with KenDrick Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KenDrick, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Tattooing was second in line behind Teaching (Physical Education), Not a lot of people know this, but I was a teacher for about 6 months in Richmond, VA. I loved the kids, but it was the school system I was under that wasn’t really working for me. Outside of that, it was more so having control of my time and money. Some people say why didn’t you do both, I did for a few weeks, but I was too tired after working with elementary kids all day I was tired and wouldn’t create the best pieces for tattooing. Therefore, I had to pick one and I choose Tattooing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One aspect I believe sets me apart from other artists is that I tried to create my own style; try my best to do tattoos that are custom to the client, true meaning behind the work. The way I have grown over the years is what I’m most proud about. Learning from my mistakes is what helped me get to where I am professionally. No, it was not an easy task learning from my mistakes because it forces you to explore alternatives; break away from your “norm”. Being patient with myself and my clients is the lesson I learned along the way. Patience is a virtue
I want the world to know that this is deeper than tattoos, There’s always a story behind the work.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out all my clients and family/friends that have helped me navigate this journey. Without their help and support I wouldn’t be the business man and artist I am today. I am very appreciative of everyone who has stood by me along the the way.
