We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Lendsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is based on a quote by Toni Morrison. She said ” I couldn’t find the book that I wanted to read so I wrote it”. That resonated with me because once I hit my 40’s I didn’t see the images of aging that I wanted to see so I decided to create them as well as offer a different narrative around aging. My social media presence turned into a great online community which in turn became opportunities to speak to others about cultivating a pro aging ennvironment. What started as a social media name is now a business centered in expanding the discourse around expanding diversity, equity and inclusion to include aging. It’s not about a Midlife Crisis but its all about Midlife Flyness

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a Pro Aging Advocate is very different from what we normally experience around aging. Often in society we hear about “Anti Aging” things are centered on turning back the hands of time and venting age as something to fight. The Yo Fly Aunty Brand is all about leaning into aging. It can be challenging to get others to understand That a lot of the things that we learned along the way regarding aging need to be unlearned. Take me very challenging to fight against the tide of societal norms especially regarding aging but I’m up for the fight.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many amazing spots in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. One minute You can be in the mountains in the next minute you can be enjoying a five-star meal and a downtown restaurant. My favorite thing to do is off the beat and path. Pop the cork wine tours with a great way to spend the day. Surprisingly Georgia has a lot of great winery’s and this a great way to spend the day. Next I would grab a quick bite from my favorite restaurant Mojave and finally finish up the day with a massage and body scrub Jeju Spa.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Kimberly Burton and the Fly, Hip & Ageless Community has played an integral part in my efforts to add to the conversation around aging. The Fly Hip Ageless community group grounded in centering black voices as well as other people of color. Whether the topics are learning more about menopause or how to keep to age well and they are definitely shifting the narrative around aging
