We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Johnson.

Hi Kendra, what makes you happy? Why?
Life, because I treat everything as an experience and I use everything as an opportunity for growth, simply because there isn’t one situation that I have been in where I didn’t learn a valuable lesson.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I launched my graphic design company in February of 2017 after not wanting to invest in a graphic designer for my then business. I was in the beauty industry selling hair extensions and needed a brand identity. Long story short, I hopped on PicsArt and gave it a go. I started advertising my work and eventually branded myself as a graphic designer. Reflecting on when I first started, I would say the main thing I struggled with was comparing myself to other designers. I just couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t produce work as “good” as theirs. I knew nothing about Adobe Creative Cloud, mockups, etc. then, it was just a phone app and vibes, lol. Fast forwarding to now, it has been like five years since I’ve operated full time as a designer. During my hiatus, I spent countless hours taking advantage of courses online to expand my knowledge brand identity, web design, and UX/UI design.

No lie, I have operated under so many different business names, lol. For the life of me, I just didn’t know what I wanted to do or how I wanted to operate at the time. I never took the time to sit down and actually create a strategy until now. I dropped myself down from the heights to start fresh. Now, I am planning to relaunch my multidisciplinary design agency by the Winter of 2023. We will be specializing in brand identity, web design, and UX/UI design for startups, health, wellness, and social good brands.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My city really doesn’t have many activities but I would definitely take my friend downtown where the bars and lounges are located. Downtown is pretty much where the “grown folks” hang and it seems like you’re in a whole different city when you’re down there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
