We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Lasha Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall Lasha, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
As a single mother who is currently in cervical cancer remission and has overcome many past hardships like almost losing my home, filing for bankruptcy, walking away from an abusive first marriage and much more, I believe the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is demonstrate my strength, resilience and the power of perseverance to my two sons. This could be a good thing and bad thing because they have never FELT those hardships nor have they taken into consideration the struggles or sacrifices made for them not to experience those hardships firsthand.
By facing and overcoming significant challenges, I’ve shown them that no matter how tough life gets, it is possible to find strength even in moments where you only feel weak or can’t see your way out, to not make excuses, to keep moving forward, and ultimately triumph. I trust this has taught them the importance of courage, determination, demonstrated a positive mindset, and has equipped them with the tools they need to handle their own adversities now as adults and ways to overcome.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and creator of Mum’s True Tea podcast and own a candle company KL Luxe Scents. I created the candle business during COVID curating scents that were centered around creating candles and organic bath products that created peace, tranquility and reduced anxiety because I was dealing with a lot of anxiety and PTSD during that time as a result of seeing the George Floyd murder unfold in front of our eyes, Jan 6 Capital attack and COVID deaths.
I created the Mum’s True Tea podcast 6 years ago but life got in the way and fear got in the way so I didn’t launch until this year. I have dealt with so much trauma as a mom and felt so alone during those trying times and said to myself there is no way in hell I am the only woman that doesn’t feel so warm and fuzzy about motherhood or the only woman processing past traumas like abandonment, PTSD from parenting or just in need of a community that can share what they are going through unapologetically, authentically and without a fear of judgement. Then my husband purchased the equipment and said to me “people need to hear your story and what you have experienced as mom babe” because there are women experiencing these feelings and these not so joyous moments of motherhood that may feel just as alone as you did and afraid to share their true feelings because they don’t want to be judged. Motherhood is no joke and it’s the hardest job you will ever have! Women need to feel safe to share their experiences without fear and that’s why I created Mum’s True Tea podcast. The podcast really is my book being written and I discuss other topics as well like parenting through your own abandonment, how forcing forgiveness when you’re not really ready to forgive is toxic, topics like how motherhood actually impacts our mental health and much more.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am 50+ so I wouldn’t be partying but would for sure create a chill itinerary that would include some wine tasting maybe at Chateau Elan or one of the many wineries up in North Georgia, have a spa day at Woodhouse Spa at Avalon, leave the spa and grab a bite at MF Sushi Avalon sense we are in the area.
Throughout the week, we would hit up some of the amazing restaurants here in Atlanta like Bella on Butner, Two Urban Licks, grab some tapas and delicious sangria at Barcelona Wine Bar, Verdure Kitchen and Cocktails, and visit Chattahoochee Food Works for some casual dining and strong drinks.
Visit High Museum or Atlanta Botanical Gardens and then would need a day of rest because like I mentioned earlier, I am in the 50+ club so all of that is going to wear me out.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first thank my husband Terence Williams for his unconditional love, his patience, his encouragement and his never ending support! He’s always very present but stays behind the scenes cheering me on, wiping my tears in moments of doubt and frustration and he is just a real stand up guy and I am forever grateful for him and his love.
There is also a book “Bet On You” written by Ayanna Anis, a friend of mine that has echoed that I need to “take the leaps, kill fear and doubt with a sword and keep betting on me!”
