Meet Kenady Graves | Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenady Graves and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kenady, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is the goodness of God. I’ve always had a love for makeup since I was a child. A certain connection with another individual in my life started the passion for my business. Everything I do is with love and being able to paint a face to embrace its beauty gives me joy. I am grateful that I was given a gift and I try to use it effectively. The lord is my guidance and I pray over my business. I’ve just started but I’m already doing great things. I’m in college and I have to manage my school life alongside my business but I’ve been placed in environments and put in the path of certain people that has died my journey. I like to say the favor of the Lord has granted me the duality of managing a 3.5 GPA and successfully handling my business duites. Divine success can only come from the lord and he is the only way that I am so blessed today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a makeup artist, I come across various unique faces who allow me to make them “new”. They show me a design and I execute it according to their features. It started off rough, and what I mean by that is, my makeup wasn’t good. The s=undertones were off, the eyebrows were slanted, the lashes were hanging on for dear life, but people;e gave me a chance. They believed me in and allowed me to practice my skills. It took me 3 years to learn how to do my own makeup before I felt comfortable doing others makeup. I learned so much about how a compliment can go so far. A lot of the clients I’ve experienced wanted to cover up a certain spot or they want a certain body part to look smaller, and a lot of the things that these women made such a big deal and wanted to cover up, was something the human eye wouldn’t notice unless pointed out. With this being said, I give grace to everyone and I show kindness to everyone everywhere I go. I embrace every feature and celebrate it. That one compliment you give someone, can alter their self esteem for the rest of their life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in metro Atlanta, more specifically Lithonia, and I love my city! I eat out often and I also travel a lot as well. For breakfast I would suggest the infamous Breakfast at Barneys. The fish and grits are to die for! Next we would visit Ponce City Market and take a walk on the belt line to do and stop at Playa Bowls for a bite of açaí. Next we would go to JJ’s for lunch and have some fried chicken with a side of lemonade. The next day we could stop at Buckhead Nail Lounge for a nice gel pedicure and go head over to Lenox Mall for some shopping. Next we could stop at Nan Thai for Thai cuisine. Later in the day we can do yoga at the Battery and stop at Insomnia cookie. The next day we can have breakfast at Poach social then head down to the Reading room and enjoy a quick snack in Decatur, enjoy the city, and end the day at Verdure, a Western and African restaurant

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Like I stated previously, The Lord is my encouragement and the reason that I am successful. The peers around me weren’t necessarily into cosmetics like I am, so it was really something that developed from my own interest and curiosity about the art.
